Many people write off a portion of their home as a home office - you'll have to talk to ask your CPA about that as the IRS has been coming down on people hard for that in recent years.

Im writing off 1/4 of my rent and utilities, because i work from home. You have to measure the size of your office and write off the percentage of the it compared to the rest of your house.
Also your only allowed to write it off if its a room that you use for work only.

I get my husband to do my taxes...he keeps track of all the expenses, the business accounts, the write offs...ect. I didn't marry an actuary for nothing. ;)

Also, he'll do them in january, so we already got our return.

I pay 50% tax on my income. Then we have 25% sales tax when buying shit from the store.

So 75%.

Cry me a river.

Yup % of your home office, your "break room", % of all bills, lunches, as others have said - gas and other car expenses, laptops, business attire, there is SO much shit you can write off.

When getting a CPA be sure and not get a CPA that works for personal accounts only. You want one that is familiar with corporate structure and creative write offs. They will cost more, but will save you a shitload more in the long run. Don't go cheap on your CPA, they charge more for a reason.

Are these the kinds of CPAs you're talking about?

Don't forget that when you're through paying all the variations of direct taxation on your income, there's sales tax, property tax and a bucket load of nickel and dime'ing the gov't does to effectively raise their share of your earnings to better than 50 percent.

And to think, when the colonies revolted from the British empire, they found 25% outrageous.

I got a damn good CPA 10 assistants all certified cpas too in one building and its not cheap but they save me alot of headaches. Based in Portland Oregon if you would like a referral send me PM a true CPA who understands internet marketing language is a godsend when explaining server adwords bandwidth and email costs :) holla

So this year I didn't work a whole lot since I' was in school full time and took classes in the summer. I did however make enough to cover all but 5k or so of my school expenses. The rest was payed with loans. Needless to say, I have 0 income tax...but I have to pay 4k self employment tax? What the fuck? Am I missing something?
