Yet another chair thread

Recently got rid of my office chair to discourage sitting, spending as much time as possible on my treadmill desk. I plan to only sit when out in public, i.e. coffee places, etc. Highly recommend.

Just Google'd 'treadmill desks'. mind = blown. Never seen these before. How long are you on these? I can't imagine myself using one. Especially when I have to stop what I'm doing to think something through.

Sometimes around ~3-4 hours, but your productivity goes up a lot while on one too so you get a lot more done in a smaller amount of time, usually. I set it to 1-2mph and after a few minutes (at most) you forget you're walking completely and you can easily burn through 1,000-1,5000 calories doing this.

I already had a treadmill so I got a Surfshelf (like $40 at Amazon) and traded in my heavy Macbook Pro for a Macbook Air and use it with the Surfshelf, works perfectly. You could set this same thing up for about $800 or less if you wanted to make the switch. Currently writing this from my treadmill btw.

Also: a treadmill desk can't break, it can only become a standing desk - which is equally great and way healthier than sitting.

this would be better for gay webmasters.

Herman Miller = Hyped Up Way Too Much. Dig around you'll find out they aren't even that great..

It's true in the short term, maybe 6 months if you code 10 hours a day for 6 days a week. Then your cheap chair will be so uncomfortable that you'll find better to sit on a kitchen chair.

OP trust me, a good chair is an investment not a simple cool buy.
If you can afford an Herman Miller, go with it.
My ass has been thanking me for 4 years

This.

I sit in my Embody 10+ hours/day. Over a year later it is still incredibly comfortable, I never get sick of sitting, and my back doesn't hate me.

Spending an extra $500 is nothing compared to having chronic back pain or feeling uncomfortable all day.

YEAH MAN, FUCK THAT SHIT!

a.k.a. "I-can't-afford-it-syndrome"

Dude, it shouldn't cost you $1700 to buy a decent chair. And frankly, I've tried those kinds of chairs and no matter how adjustable they are, they still aren't comfortable to me.

Right now I'm using a standard metal folding chair, with a memory foam pillow as the seat cushion.

My butt is comfortable and I'm self supporting my back. Works for me (at least until I decide on something else).
I had intended to get a new chair months ago, but this setup has been much more comfortable than I anticipated,
so I haven't bothered.

Day 4 of Exercise ball + moved the laptop to standing height (so if I want to chat with faggots on skype, I'm standing up, huge productivity booster).

Feel amazing, other than some initial soreness in my upper back/shoulders from actually sitting with good posture (it's hard as hell to slouch while balancing on a ball).

I have multiple desktops at my command center, so I actually have to get up to change locations, rather than just swiveling in my chair between them.

Really feels like my focus and energy levels are up too, again probably from increased posture.

Overall, highly recommended if you're willing to deal with a bit of discomfort the first couple days while your body gets used to using new muscles.
