Yet another passenger plane missing :(

I have reason to believe that, at least in the past week or so, air travel has been slightly more dangerous than it has been in the past several years per individual flying.

At least since the KLM/Pan Am crash.

If you guys would read in the same way about sunken ships you would never enter one again.

shit. 2 hour flight trip to romania in 3 days. come at me, russian separatists in romania.

There's like 50,000 flights a day. 2 or 3 crashes in the space of 2 weeks is tragic, but it's still an extremely low number.

"As of February 2013, the MD-80 series has been involved in 61 incidents,[26] including 31 hull-loss accidents,[27] with 1,330 fatalities of occupants.[28]"

McDonnell Douglas MD-80 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It also states that there were 1,191 total delivered, so who knows how many were wrecked/decommissioned between 1980 and when the above statistic came out. Let's say there were 1,000 still in commission.

That's a 6.1% chance an MD-80 has had an accident in ~18 months.

Dang.

1/18 chance of survival getting on a plane?

this reminds me of a local flight in Ukraine i had in 2004, where I clearly remember the stewardess bring 2 bottles of vodka to the cockpit, and the emergency exit window beside me was covered in condensation.
