Young Swedish guy broadcasts suicide live on web

A family member of mine killed herself very recently. She drove for 3 hours to a famous suicide spot and threw herself off a cliff. She was middle-aged and had kids, so probably had different reasons to the dude in the video.

She'd had mental health problems, and her relationship with her husband was really bad. Still feel really sorry for her kids and her folks though.

It's really hard to make sense of why someone would do that. I agree that it's the ultimate self-centered act though... but I have no concept of how someone could think their life was that unworthwhile.

@roundabout.... Most people today in the west have been sold this idea that they're entitled to a happy, easy life. When they come up against the reality that life is very challenging at times, they're just not equipped to deal with it.

They certainly don't value life as much as they did, because these days, we're very isolated from how brief and easily snuffed out it is. I remember my grandma telling me about her time in the land army in the second world war.

Although it was very hard work, it was also some of her happiest time.

Apparently, he had asperger's syndrome. Wonder if it had anything to do with it.

I can't watch it now but someone please save it so I can have a look at it later in case it's taken down.

Cheers!

In my opinion one who commit suicide is courage less person of the universe, Everyone have problems of different types, Facing the problem and tackling the problem is real bravery.

Only recently in human history has our lives been so god damn easy physically. I think a lack of true physical work can definitely lead to psychological problems for some - especially neurotic behavior.

Agreed, I'm going to go to Home Depot right now and hop in the first pickup that pulls up.

Don't want to be driven to suicide...

Blame the parents for rearing sissies, not scientific progress.

Skip this if you're in a hurry:

Read a story about Jim Thorpe recently. During his time, he was hailed around the world as the best all-around athlete. According to the author, presidents and kings across the globe recognized him publicly. A movie was made about him with Burt Lancaster as the lead.

After sports, Thorpe went through hard times. Spent years drinking, and died a drunk. In a trailer (not down by the river).

His daughter was interviewed recently. She said her dad never really talked about himself. Not about his successes and not about his tragedies. He was pretty closed-mouthed, like most men during that time. My granddad was the same way. My dad is, too.

Today, attention whores go on twitter and FB to tell each other what they had for breakfast. Or, they share what they're feeling. These days, people can't get enough of themselves, and they want the whole world to know.

Probably comes from parents telling kids how special they are. Kids "grow up" thinking they're special. Old guys like me just shake our heads and think, "Pathetic."

People offing themselves is always sad. But people doing it on camera is pathetic (still sad, of course).

At the heart of it is narcissism.

Looking around at other parents and how they treat their kids, I'll tell you this:

It's gonna get a lot worse before it ever gets better.

So your point is: better to die a miserable drunk in a trailer instead of getting your problems off your chest?

I am okay with you missing my point.

I reread it and I think you might be missing your point. You seem to be yearning for a day when men were real men and didn't talk about their feelings and if being manly meant dying alone, isolated in a trailer then at least he died with stoic dignity (except that he probably died in his own puke, but hey, death is messy)

Every generation has their head shakers and tongue cluckers and nostalgic dreamers and ever generation turns out fine, more or less.

wow....that video ruined my day

when someone says "i dont recommend doing this" the automatic reaction was to do it...shouldnt have done it

on a different note

i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance

Wonder what he would have done had the video cut out around the time he was turning purple... Would he have stopped, reset it, and started all over again? Think maybe his last thoughts would have been "Oh shit, not again!!!?"...

Yeah its sad. But its suicide. Its always kinda sad that someone is at a point in their life where they think its just not gonna get any better and they decide right then and there, fuck it, and take their life. How is this any worse than other people doing it around the world everyday? Because he broadcast it over the interwebz? Big fuckin deal. He's a douchebag for putting his family through this, bad enough he decided to off himself, but he was a selfish fuck for doing it like this. If people are inspired to copycat him, then we may actually witness our first sponsored suicide by a casket company or funeral home. Death is a business and industry too you know.

Just sayin...

About 2 years ago a kid did the same thing on the misc subforum of bodybuilding.com. He was around the same age, 20 or so. Everyone thought he was a troll and egged him on. He killed himself by OD'ing on pills. He was broadcasting it on stickam if I remember right. After he didn't move for 5 mins or so, some people starting getting his IP to contact the authorities. The last thing you see on the video is the police bashing in the door to try to save him, but it was too late. His handle was candy junky or something like that. Was pretty sad.
