Just watched it and really hated it. The whole movie for me really stunk. Hated the music, the way it was filmed, everything. The overall premise was good though, but it was just way too artsy for me. It Was actually quite painful to make it to the end.

It's funny how vastly different peoples tastes can be when it comes to movies as this film has a great IMDB score of 7.5 but I would have given it a 2.

I didn't care for Pi either although I love the director's other work. Like you said, way to artsy...and boring.

Saw this at a film festival. Low budget, but done very well. It's not yet available for purchase, but looks like Amazon is taking pre-orders.

Brother 2 is even better, though being born in USSR and understanding the Russian culture helps make the movie better. Was a sad day when the main star died, was sort of a hope of Russian cinematography...

Awesome, loved it, very refreshing.

Didn't knew you could watch full Russian movies on youtube like that, will watch the Russian movie "The Thief" next which also looks very promising.

Yeah, I wish they had some newer ones. Novaya zemlya is pretty good but couldn't find one with subtitles on youtube (experiment of putting Russian and American prisoners on an empty island, Tom Lister Jr from Friday, Dark Knight is in it at the end). Chujaya is good, couldn't find it on youtube.

Brother - One of Takeshi Kitano's best films IMO.

Brother (2000) - IMDb

+1 on this, good movie, if you like Yakuza / Gangster shit this is a great watch.

Supposedly, Kitano wasn't happy with this film and it was supposed to be his big breakthrough into the Hollywood market. But for some reason or another failed. Still a good movie though IMO.

"Before The Devil Knows You're Dead."

Was going to recommend this -- an unbelievably powerful film. Also, you get to see Marisa Tomei naked, which is so awesome that it is worth seeing her getting pounded by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Also worth checking out is Ronin. One of de Niro's best late career movies, and one of the greatest car chase scenes ever put on film. Also has plot etc. If you aren't old enough to have any meaningful recollection of the Cold War, it may not have the same impact as it otherwise would; however, Ronin has some notability in being one of the first films to address the "Well, the Cold War's over -- what do we do with all these spooks?" conundrums (Goldeneye and The Peacekeeper are two fairly shitty examples of this subgenre; Ronin pounds them both in the ass with its awesomeness.)

If you don't mind subtitles, I recommended netflixing "City Of God." The trailer doesn't really do it justice but trust me, it's a great film.
