Zuckerberg Fortune Drops $600 Million as Facebook Flops

I'm not arguing from my opinion, I'm arguing from pricing strategy for valuating a company for a private acquisition. It's the business standard, the stock market is a fucking joke and should not be trusted as its rarely consistent or rational. Revenue, margins, assets, and growth are things so much more reliable than stock investors

The problem might be that you have failed to link to a PDF hosted on mises.org?

What does that have to do with anything in this discussion?

There is nothing worse than dimestore ideologues hijacking a discussion to promote their pet hobby horses.

You stated that the time to buy is when there is blood in the streets, so based upon your link to investopedia you are implying that now would be a good time to get in on Facebook. I was just stating the obvious that there are still 1.9 billion more shares to be released in the coming months. I used the term "bodies to be slaughtered" because if someone chooses to buy now, they'll be crying in 3 months about how they lost over 50% of their investment, just like is happening right now.

I'm not sure what got you panties in a bunch, but hopefully you woke up on the other side of the bed this morning. :)

Facebook needs a game changer, and I mean fast. Their answer lies in mobile. What they can pull off in mobile is going to turn the company around. Mobile, nothing else. By mid 2013, mobile traffic is going to overtake desktop traffic on the internet. If you yourself don't have mobile sites, and campaigns, you're going to get left behind.

Good luck bros.
This. Mobile is the newest game-changer as the desktop is being left behind. He who effectively harnesses mobile wins the next round.

Well, should FB be thankful for Mark Zuckerberg as CEO?

Can his nimble leadership instill the confidence needed to solve the mobile questions and other major challenges?

I don't think so.

And once MZ gets square with all the FB employees owning options with a $38 strike price (OMFG), will they get down to the business of Google-killing FaceTube and Apple-killing FaceFone? Again, I don't think so. Zero confidence in any future game changers, in fact. And don't think that burned bank clients of Morgan Stanley and Goldman don't have memories.

From the earlier infopic, this timeline is fucking ridiculous:

Nov '10 - Accel Partners sell, $35B valuation

Jan '11 - GS leads funding, $50B valuation

Dec '11 - $80B valuation

Unchecked greed tends to create unforeseen problems.

Let's give MZ all the credit in the world for creating Facebook, he made it happen. (And I personally I don't think he "stole" anything - ideas are cheap, any drunk on a park bench has them - but then I again, I didn't see the movie so I could be wrong)

BUT he is woefully unfit to be CEO of a major, publicly-traded corporation. 40 to 30 to 20 isn't an opportunity - it's a trend.

And imagine how much it will drop within 5 years. Remember, Facebook is just a social network, the biggest of all. People just log in to see what other people are doing, not to buy stuff or even to stay informed.

No matter how many features they add, it will keep being just a social network. Just like MySpace.

I bought into Zynga at $3.11. It will come back as well. As a start to fix this, they fired the main dude in charge of all of their games. Once they start launching gambling games I think their shares will go up. They are being proactive.

Both Facebook and Zynga are at the top of the list for those set up to profit when the online gambling stuff rolls out in full force. Should be interesting to watch and possibly profitable as well...

How likely is it possible for the online gambling stuff to be allowed? It seems like a great time to invest in Zynga.

Legally the UIEGA repeal from Dec 2011 clears a lot of activity - principally online lottery ticket sales. IL/MA/MD are ready to go, but there are plenty of unpleasant complications for the affiliate dreamer. Maybe Facebook could get a crack at selling lottery tickets.

Why would a publisher run facebook ads on their site vs google ads?

You are either a PR bot or a dumbass

Are you f'kn serious? Facebook holds the holy grail of information about what people "like" and are into. Why do you think Google launched Google Plus??? THEY WANT THIS DATA. If Facebook launched an outside ad network they would generate an even more insane cash flow and their stock would soar.

In terms of Zynga, they will do a few things. 1. They are going to be launching real gambling products in countries that allow it. 2. They are working on getting online gambling legalized in the US. I think this will happen. With their cross promotion ability and ability to dump millions of users into a game in a day, I think this alone could be worth more than their current business. 3. They are coming up with clever ways of integrating video ads into their products and I think over time they will find other ways to make money besides direct item/currency sales and make more off their users. 4. They are getting into the hardcore niche where companies like Kixeye and Kabam thrive, and are currently killing it. If Zynga get into this niche they will tremendously improve their numbers, big time.

It will happen.

For sure.. if it happens it will be ridiculous.

Google didn't release all of it's products at once. This shit takes time. The problem is both of these companies have peaked with their current products and monetization. Now they need to start introducing more ways to monetize and expand their products. Both of which, have done before.

Not so sure. My kids do not have nor want email addresses. They want me to communicate via FB messaging. My GF's kids are the same. Make of that what you will ...

You have to have an email address to sign up. Either facebook changed that or your kids aren't telling you the truth.

Dude, just because they know what people like doesn't equal a sale. Yes, it's sick as fuck that they know what everyone likes and that data is super valuable, nobody is debating that I don't think unless they're retarded.

However, like Guerilla said, Facebook doesn't have intent. If Facebook knows I like fishing boats, they can throw fishing boat ads at me on the sidebar and I may or may not click out of curiosity.

BUT, if I actually want to BUY a new fishing boat, guess where I'm going to look for one? Google(or some other SE), not Facebook. If Google could get their hands on FB's data about people, it would be pretty sick. But FB doesn't have the means to really exploit that data because they have no intent based service.

At the very least I feel like FB should implement some type of FB homepage that shows a simple search box, and the users email. Then encourage users to set it as their homepage. I mean, Bing sucks shit, but half the people on FB probably can't tell the difference between Bing and Google anyway.

If FB wants to ever think about competing on the level of Google, they better get their fucking search game in order. And I don't mean competing on the level of Google in terms of our parents saying "Oh this FB thing is great, it's the next Google! Let's buy some stock!". I mean REALLY competing on the level of Google in terms of value, revenue, and need. I don't "need" facebook, if facebook died tomorrow my life would go on as normal. If Google died tomorrow I would lose my YouTube account, my email which the the soul of my online life, and I would have to find and use a different and shittier search engine.
