Do you meditate?

same here..
Going to meditate now. We should start WF meditation group, so we keep reminding each other to do it.

I'm all for it. I do 8 minutes in the morning and 8 minutes before going to bed. Bought "8 minute meditation" on Amazon. With only 8 minutes there's no excuse not to do it

All jokes to the side, Ricky Williams (Running Back for the Dolphins) meditates and does yoga and all that stuff. He is actually pretty smart and is/was taking night classes at Nova (I think) before the season started. He had a class every Wed where you could go there and meditate and he would teach you for free. He wants to go pre-med so he can study osteopathy.

If you ever get a chance, watch the 30 for 30 with Ricky Williams on ESPN.

i'm a buddhist and i attend a weekly sunday meditation/teaching which one of my good friends is the teacher.

How long have you been doing it? Has the quality of your life changed since you started meditating? think 8 minutes a day is enough?

it's been 3 year now.
i am a lot more relaxed than i used to be.
i used to fight a lot(at shows when i was in HS and in college).
i was tired of that and being a buddhist changed me a lot.
sitting 8 mins will help a lot.
my suggestion is to try to sit 1st thing in the morning.
it's the best time of the day bc you are doing it where there is less on the mind and less stress.
try vipassana meditation it focuses on breathe.
if you look up on google you can find info on it.
also i suggest going to Dharma Punx - MP3 Talks
there are mediations on mp3 format. try the soft belly ones.

if i remember to bring my netbook, i can record a sunday session and post it on here for everyone.

no but i have managed a form of self hypnosis to get myself to go to sleep (you guys know my sleeping issues) which I think may be sort of like meditating. It's very relaxing. Basically I just create an image in my brain of something (for some reason it usually has to be something natural like a leaf, rain, waterfalls, snow...ect) and i just have to picture it doing something on a loop falling over and over. Or sometimes a cloud expanding. Fire moving.

It's weird, but it works. I'm usually asleep before i can get through a few loops in my mind.

That's a form of meditation also. In Zimok's video the guy says that concentrating on your breath (also a looping action) is just a way of focusing on the present moment. Great for falling asleep actually. If I lay down meditating at night I often fall asleep and only wake up when the timer rings.

Woman in Zimok's video actually has a problem where she falls asleep everytime she meditates, which frustrates her.

Fight for show? Please do

Great thread, learning a lot and interesting to see how everyone has their own little way of going about things.

These took me a while to figure out fully, to experience them myself and then finally to believe them.. proof is in the pudding, I'm not asking anyone to believe me, but to think and to try it for themselves.

1. You have a conscious and a subconscious.

2. The conscious thoughts and imagination are under your absolute control when you decide them to be.

3. The subconscious is the mirror of the consciousness. It's only property besides being a mirror unto yourself is it's ability to retain thoughts linked to emotion, it's extremely efficient at doing this.

4. Everything in this universe you've ever thought about while feeling something is assigned an emotion and stored away for your entire life.

5. Every time an emotion is felt or recalled through something(anything you can think of) and you don't accept or comes to terms with it in a way which is emotionally meaningful to you in appeasing that which troubles your being, you empower that thought/emotion further in a negative way.

6. By consciously choosing how we feel, we take momentum away from what we don't want to feel, freeing ourselves from the burden of those emotions which bother you is what will set you free.

7. I classify everything in terms of momentum. Basically, tell myself, Zimok you have reacted in X manner for Y problem Z amount of times. You will need equal but opposing positive restructuring of your emotion, so every time you will encounter Y, you will consciously choose the best action/reaction to X, Z amount of times until you have enough momentum that it is eradicated from your being.

You now have the tools to no longer be a victim to your emotions.

If you have more interest in this I'd suggest you look into 'cognitive behavioral therapy'.

I practice zen meditation and it really helps me in everything in my life; I feel better, my intuition goes very well and when world seems falling down, I don't feel lost.

Whatever works. I actually count and visualize the numbers sliding/fading/expanding into view ... sorta like a screensaver. If my mind starts to trail off on another thought I start over at 1 again. I can fall asleep in 5 minutes now, it used to take hours.

No meditation, but I do hit the gym or run every several times a week. It keeps my stress levels down big time.

I do meditate sometimes, and meditation enables me to perform telepathy for dummies. Serisouly. But not an expert though. I can transfer a thought to another person for around 5 minutes. I know it's a long time. Maybe I should go and meditate some more. Sometimes I use telepathy accidentally without my consent. It's really funny how you accidentally send some thought toward another person.

Nice bubble bath after a busy week, it's amazing the things you can get answers to when you're not in a hurry, but then again some of my best work has come working under pressure.

meditation is the art of clearing your mind of focusing it. Very useful in relieving stress and prioritizing things. Hard to do at first but easier the more you do it.

Meditation can be an ambiguous word.

My own definition - to be aware of ones own thoughts, and to realise the power they hold, and the power we have to change them.

Simply put, I try to always listen to my thoughts. When I start to think of something which makes me feel bad, then I change my thoughts into thoughts which make me feel good.

This effect snowballs onto my actions, which become actions which get me nearer and nearer to whatever my current goal is at this time.

Hope you guys find this interesting.
