Time to give back, bitches

Comment about OP's concern for schools.
I dont think schools have lack of money problems. They have lack of money management problems. For starters they should get rid of ESL - major money waster. Reward performing teaching, don't guarantee shit.

As for giving money. I do. But and its a big But.
I will tip my waiter, busboy, kitchen crew really well if they do a good job. I'd rather see people working a shitty job. Then standing on the street with hands out.
Couple weeks ago I had a young guy starting a carpet cleaning business give me a really good deal. I paid him an extra $25 just because. Thats how I help out locally.
At least I know were the money is going, and actually get gratification from seeing a face smile.

Specially now around the holiday season, an extra 20 bucks could make a difference for single mom taking your order.

Agree 100% with where Rusty is coming from. Now maybe the Canadian education system is quite a bit different so I won't make too many statements there.

What I like to do is instead of throwing money at public run institutions (that are still important) but lack the money-managment skills I want to see, I throw it at private run operations that do the same great things and that have low funding raising percentages.

One of my favourites is the IWK Halifax for kids. Helps thousands of kids no matter what the illness and their financial state and is run 100% my private donations (despite some false statements online).

Hundreds of children with cancer are healed every year because of the institution. I always get a feeling like my money is being put to good use there.

This year for my yearly donation I think I'll get "FTC-Hater" thrown up on the sponsor wall (I'll put Wickedfire is someone donates $500 towards the $2,500 needed).

I've always been taught that if you can give back, even just a little, that it all makes a difference. Sometimes you wonder if it does, but I like to do what I can.

Our daughter is having her first birthday party, and instead of having people bring her a bunch of toys she doesn't need, we're having them bring unwrapped gifts that we're going to donate to Toys for Tots this holiday season. I hate seeing the kids miss out on Christmas because their parents have fallen on hard times so we thought this would be a good way to do something nice.

We're still getting our kid Birthday presents, but she's pretty spoiled already so she won't be missing out on much.

Motherfucking +REP! Great idea broheim

Yeah that's pretty much exactly what was I was thinking. Of course there are people with medical problems who can't work, but we have a program for that. The rest of them are lazy bitches.

Also, why you poor bro?

takes a special kind of person to crap on a thread about charity...

dont give money to the schools. they are corrupt as fuck. my school district has 4 administrators making over 200k a year, and they do near nothing. most of them retired from another job in the education and are also making a pension on that. my school has 2.4k kids, yet it still requires 2 principals, like 9 vice principals and about 25 guidance counselors. its overkill. they bitch about budget cuts but they have these things called smart boards that cost 7k(our teacher told us) and all they are are projectors and a small board with some nifty software. they barely get any use. then, you have the teachers who get tenured and do shitty teaching, but make way more then any of the other younger, hardworking teachers who are busting their ass to get to tenure. some make bank and barely teach. there are 8 periods in the day yet most teachers teach 3, 4 at the most. the others are "prep" period where they sit around and jerk it in their break rooms. cut out a nice chunk of the teachers and you can save a shit load of money without limiting the education. they have no incentive to perform well because their jobs are safe. if i email a teacher anytime after last period, i wont hear a response til the next morning. at my job i am expected to check my email occasionally to make sure that noone needs me. i could go on but time to go eat some turkey.

u mad bro?

@joevis & others who clearly struggle to envisage a world outside their own neighbourhood:

There are women in the Congo who make money for food by hauling 60kg bags of rocks on their backs 6 miles out of the diamond mines, walking barefoot and waist deep in water.

For that, they get paid $3 a time. They don't get time off for holidays, or maternity leave. Some of them are up to 8 months pregnant. If they miscarry, that's just too bad. If they don't haul rocks, they starve to death. If they die, their family dies. There are no men because they were killed fighting each other over the diamonds, or by AIDS.

All anybody in this forum does (myself included) is sit around on our asses all day typing shit into a computer, and occasionally talking to people on the phone. For this we get paid in a month more than one of those women will earn in her entire fucking life.

Please don't kid yourself what you're doing is "hard work". It's not.

Working down a mine is hard work. This is a fucking breeze, and you should be deeply and eternally grateful that you were born (by random accident and against the odds) into a prosperous, advanced society that allows you to make a living this way. I know I am.

And show your gratitude by sharing the bounty from your good luck around.

(On the other hand, I get what you're saying about lazy fuckers in rich nations who expect a handout. I've just about had it up to here with people whinging about goverment cuts, like the government owes them a fucking living. Nobody owes them shit.)

And just in case you wanted photographic evidence of what hard work actually looks like:

Hope is not too late to jump into this topic. Giving back is always good since we do make a fair amount doing what we do. And obviously there ARE douchebags out there who refuse to work and live on government funding. But look at it this way, if you are going to donate or support a family..majority of the time they already have government funding. Especially when these so called poor families live in North America, they are better off than most lower class workers making minimum wage.

If you ARE interested in donating and helping out, check out World Vision. These people actually need help..they have horrible living environment and theres no such thing as government funding.

Not only people with medical problems. There is a lot of people who have really bad start in life: their parents have no ambition, can't provide proper education for them. These people often come from very small towns where there are no serious perspectives and more less everyone is equal.

Now, you can give me thousands of examples of people who started at point zero and achieve a lot. But all of those people are intelligent people. What about those born with IQ80 or so? They stand no chance in the modern world no matter how hard they will work and try. Street cleaning, labors and so forth - that is their maximum. They are not lazy, often work very hard, but will never get rich.

Treat your intelligence as a gift. People like you can probably start from zero and achieve something. The way you describe the world is just not accessible for people with lower intelligence than yours. It's like you will never achieve anything close to Leonardo Da Vinci, no matter how hard you will try. His mind is beyond your possibilities just like your mind is much bigger than the minds of thousands simple people who will never get rich.
