Any good laptop that isn't an Apple?

If you are looking for laptop that suits for gaming then this is a beast.

Best Laptop

As sweet as they look, I hear a lot of horror stories over the Alienwares. They are some pretty sweet rigs, yet seem to break like clockwork as soon as the warenty is up. I've known a couple people, including my brother, who've had them. That's not to say yours will, but has been my impression of them in the past.

If you've got the cash and want something light and powerful check out: VAIO Z Series Laptops | Sony Store USA

I've had my eye on it for quite some time. Probably gonna buy it before this tax year is over.

Edit: I don't know if it's the best bang for your buck as I haven't been following computers closely for quite some time. But, it seems pretty powerful, has a SSD, and is thin and sexy. Get's a thumbs up from me.

Interesting, looks pretty cool, well if you're in to 13" screens :uhoh2:. You're really paying for the small thinner form factor. Who the fuck wants to work on a 13" screen? It really seems like a Sony competitor of the Macbook Air, more than likely.

Anyways, larger form factor, better hardware, + SSD = win.

Wtf is that thing so expensive for?

Allegedly because they are very well built, long lasting, well engineered, business level laptops that are expect to survive a very long time. However if you're not a business that looking to hold on to ancient hardware forever, there really is no point to buy one as you're more likely to flip your current rig in like 2 years. At least that's the time table I run on.

Don't mind the small screen because I got them dual 23 inchers on my desk. On the go, 13" isn't ideal, but I think it makes up for that with how thin/light it is, as well as the super long battery life. Agreed in that you're definitely paying for how thin it is, so if it'll just sit on your desk all the time it's certainly not worth it.

Samsung series 9 thirded. I used to be absolutely head-over-heels for thinkpads, but haven't bought one ever since Lenovo took over them so not sure what they're like now.

I heard that fan noise on the Z is a constant annoyance since it's on no matter what you do with your laptop, any truth to this?

I've had a look at the Asus, while their specs are good, they're simply too heavy/bulky for me. Plus, I don't game.

Anything else you guys wanna suggest?

I don't game either. Own both of the envy 13 and asus u33jc. Both are great, light and sturdy laptops. Absolutely no complaints with either:

i'm using a Toshiba, and got nothing to complain. All i can say it's, stay away from HP

Uhh. I might actually get a MacBook Air after all. Mission to avoid Apple = fail.

Well played Steve Jobs.. well played.

If it were me, and apple wasn't an option I'd be going for the Lenovo Thinkpad series... everything else is just built like garbage.

More expensive than a Macbook, and they still haven't managed to make a solid metal body. It looks good but the keyboard surround and the bottom of it is disappointingly plastic. I really really tried hard to find a laptop with at least comparable build quality to a macbook, but I failed in that search and ended up with a MBP. I run Windows 7 on it though OF COURSE.

What ever you do I wouldn't recommend HP. I have the Touchsmart tx2 and it appears that they made a design flaw and now it's overheating if I leave it on for more than 6-7 hours (and you guys know that it needs to be on a lot more than that). That's a major problem.

Also a friend of mine got the Envy 15 and although the graphics are very good and the processor is awesome ( core i7 ) it has a problem with overheating too. And whatever headphones he puts in they get broken. Fuck that shit.

If you want a good laptop I would recommend Asus. I have no problem with their laptops.. Good luck anyways..
