Also I have energy like crazy being so healthy :)

I'm hope im not sounding like some raw food freak, but a tip is to make green smoothies:

1) spinach
2) banana
3) washed spinach leaves
4) strawberries
5) water

Throw everything in a blender and enjoy :) really healthy stuff.

^^^ Spinach and washed spinach leaves?

I did P90X earlier this year after starting a thread on it here. I lost 21lbs. I am starting Round 2 in about 10 minutes. Best decision I ever made. Went from 212 to 191lbs and lost around 12 inches on my body.

I am on a D1 college track/XC team and I can tell you that this 15 minute BS is a complete waste of time. What is it going to accomplish? Admittedly I don't know much about running for weight loss, but running ~2 miles a day isn't going to do shit. You need to slowly increase, throw in harder workouts twice a week. Get up to 30 miles per week, then 40. That's about half of what I run. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds and you will feel great every day and be sleepy enough to get to bed at night.

40 miles per week! That's WAY too much running for an average person, they are going to absolutely kill their knees. And besides, they aren't training for a long distance run, they are trying to lose weight. You can lose a lot of weight, and get ripped without running. Many of the natural bodybuilders (the real natural ones, no supplements) are ripped to shreds and they only do about 10-15 minutes of cardio per day - IF THAT. Now, I think you should do at least 20-30 minutes per day, but the point is, running for miles and miles each day is definitely not needed.

No offense dude but those numbers are BS. In fact, all of these BMR & TDDE #'s you can compute online are BS. There is no way to know exactly how many calories you burn unless you lock yourself in a metabolic chamber.

Calorie counting is stupid and pointless. If you overshoot by 20 calories for for 20 years you'll end up 40 pounds heavier. Nobody can maintain that precise caloric balance. Eat one bite more of food and you're over. Walk 100 steps less and you're over.

I don't remember who it was on this forum that pointed me to this guy (see video below) but I can't thank him enough. Changed my life.

Enough with the 6-7 meals/day, whole grain only BS. There's never a shortage of nutritional advice. Everyone's a fucking expert! And yet the world is fucking fatter and more diseased than ever.

Guess what? Our ancestors didn't eat 6-7 meals/day nor did they consume grains until 10,000 years ago. They ate "artery-clogging" animal fat and fasted when they had nothing to eat. Coincidentally, they had NONE of the diseases that plague modern man today.

Enlighten yourselves...

Why We Get Fat - Gary Taubes at OSUMC - YouTube

Saying calorie counting is stupid and pointless really shows how little you know. A 20 calorie difference will not matter when you are changing your caloric intake by 500+. Calories directly effect weight loss / gain so why would you not count them when wanting to lose / gain weight?

No it's not. That's exactly what I thought up until a month ago. Watch the video by the way to see why that thinking is flawed.

My scenario:

6'1" - 201 lbs. - was trying to get down to 180 since beginning of May. I ate between 1,800 - 2,200 cals/day; high carb, moderate protein, low fat (i.e. the American Heart Association recommended diet).

Exercise: 3 days a week resistance training; 3 days a week HIIT (running on the treadmill). Also, I live in the center of Boston and walk everywhere to the tune of 4-6 miles/day. Weight loss up until July 11th. ZERO. Yes, fucking 0 after 2.5 months.

Oh, and by the way, with that amount of activity and eating habits, I should be the poster child of the AHA. But low and behold, my blood test last month showed I'm hypercholesterolemic (fantastic).

One month ago, I was introduced to Gary Tabues and the real reasons we gain weight. I cut out carbs: no sugars, grains, potatoes, or rice.

I eat like a PIG - all the foods that are supposed to be unhealthy (steak, bacon, eggs, etc...) I'm never hungry, and I'm down 7 lbs. since July 11th.

Weight loss is not rocket science but it's not about calories in vs. calories out either. A calorie is not just a calorie because of the different hormonal responses it elicits (i.e. carbs spike insulin which leads to fat storage; you can't lose weight if you have high levels of insulin).

Again, watch the video.

You cannot honestly sit here and debate whether calories in vs calories out determines weight loss. It's science, plain and simple. Eating 2000 calories worth of donuts you will lose the same amount of weight as easting a diet consisting of grilled chicken / vegetables. You will however be losing a lot of muscle in the process if you don't get proper protein intake. If you eat 500 calories below maintenance, lift, and get sufficient protein each day, you will be losing 1lb of fat per week while maintaining as much muscle as possible at a calorie deficit.

What you are doing is simply a ketogenic diet and will not be any more effective than if you swapped out carbs for fat and ate the same amount of calories.

I have lost About 15 kg in just 45 days by running 3 km every day in evening and I have maintained my diet plane which was before I just started to use one glass of water before having meal every time which reduces my hunger and I feel comfirtable with less food and also avoid weakness.

You Dont Need to Sacrifice your Food Because I have loose 15 kg in just 30 days by running 3 km every day without sacrificing my diet plan.I use to have one glass of water before my meal which reduces my desire of food and fulfills my need of food.

I agree, calories directly affect weight loss, 1st law of thermodynamics, etc., etc., etc... my point is, it's impossible to practice energy balance by counting calories because you don't know how much you burn unless you're living in a metabolic chamber.

Next, a calorie is not a calorie... it all depends on your sensitivity to insulin. Feed a diabetic person 1,200 calories of twinkies and they will not lose weight.

Eating 2000 calories worth of donuts you will lose the same amount of weight as easting a diet consisting of grilled chicken / vegetables.

As above, it all depends on your metabolism. If you feed an insulin resistant (i.e. type 2 diabetic) 2,000 calories of donuts they will not lose the same amount of weight (most likely none at all) than if they ate 2,000 calories of chicken / vegetables.

Taubes is a retard that only chooses scientific experiments that support his opinion and ignores everything that go against his position.

It's odd that you call Taubes a retard then link to Lyle McDonald. I like his info, which coincidentally is the same line of thinking at Taubes:

Well here's what Lyle thinks about Taubes as a book author -

Do a search for Lyle's book "The ultimate diet 2.0 pdf" he does a really good job of explaining what's going on.

Bringing this thread back to life // Rundown of what happened and what is happening now.

I'm terrible with dates so I'll probably be off on a few of these but you get the idea.

3-4 months ago I was on track with my diet for a total of 5.5 weeks, I went from 253lbs to 232lbs // I was losing an average of 1-2lbs for the first few weeks of eating pretty healthy with zero sugar, then I cut carbs as much as possible and my body really responded to that, More energy and faster weight loss, saw two weeks in a row at 6lbs down each // my best weeks.

TL;DR // Sister and her son moved into my house and stressed me the fuck out

(TL;DR STORY: So a crisis happened, My sister got into a huge fight with her husband and they split // she showed up at my door with her 5yo son and needed a place to stay, I tried to stick to my diet but it slowly got worse and worse with the added stress of living with a depressed sister and a 5yo being well... a 5yo.

Sleep? yea right, kid was up at 7AM loud as fuck and in bed at 10PM and then we had to be quiet and I work mostly at night so I was getting very little sleep to boot.)

So after being a complete bitch over the holidays and my sister off on her own again I'm ready to get back on track, I'm currently 239lbs and as of tonight cutting all sweets, as many carbs as possible and increasing lean protein with little fats.

Looking for a way to get cardio ( I live in FL running outside is humid as fuck #firstworldproblem ) so I'm looking to get a treadmill as I'll be more likely to do that often if its easy #anotherfirstworldproblem

Looking to do cardio for 3-4 weeks until I'm not embarrassingly out of shape then going to the local gym to start weight training and do cardio every other day.

I'm giving myself 8 months to get to ~160lbs (depending on how my body reacts, might not get that low if I can put decent muscle on) and start adding muscle weight until I get decent looking.

(Not a fan of the overly buff look, but no one hates 15lbs of muscle)

I'm a fatty. I started my journey in November 2011 at 290.2 pounds. Down to 247.6 now but I've hit a bit of a plateau and haven't lost anything in 2 weeks.

About to start a juice fast to cleanse. Was thinking of a 30 day nothing-but-green-juice diet. Just waiting on my juicer. From there, I plan to reintroduce food, and supplement with high nutrient juicing.

Where are you in Florida? I have a group of buddies (we're all business owners) that work out hard if you really want to get in shape.

We do shit like century rides, half mile swims, 5 mile running races some mornings, wind surfing, mudruns, and we're going to be one of the many teams doing the Spartan race later this year (having just done the Warrior Dash).

FWIW: I'm 5'11", 175lbs. Ecto/Mesomorphic all day, everyday so I doubt I'll ever look like a Spartan who'll eat a Persian for breakfast. More like GSP, but not as famous or rich as GSP. lol
