How the hell can it cost me $602 (including all the bullshit fees) to fly from San Diego to Myrtle Beach, SC, when I can fly into Wilmington, NC for $391? Wilmington is an hour and a half north of MB, and really doesn't work for me, but that's just so much difference in price. I realize Myrtle airport is small, but Wilmington isn't huge from what I remember. So where's the extra cost come from?

Hell, a ticket from SD to Atlanta is $400, where I connect to MB anyway, so they're hitting me for another $200 to fly a little over an hour into Myrtle. Just insane.

A couple years ago I wouldn't pay over $400 for the whole damn thing. Now it's +$200 and all of the baggage fees. We're getting fucked I tell ya, fucked.

The less people flying to that place the more expensive it is, the less planes will be going there ect

Yeah, a couple month back I was looking for ticket to Minneapolis - $600 round trip. Then found a roundtrip ticket to Houston, TX for $350, with a plane change in Minneapolis. Called the airlines, asked if I accidentally miss the second flight and can get on the flight back from the first city. They brought up all the fees that I'd have to pay...

It was still cheaper to buy 1 way ticket to Houston and one way ticket back from Minneapolis.

Get the flight to atlanta and get off in MB and only take carry on luggage.

Yeah - only travelling without luggage will probably make them think you are a deviant and TSA won't let you board.

I believe that...
Back in 2000 I had a meeting with a company in L.A. and had to fly from Detroit... the meeting was only for a couple hours then I was coming right back so I didn't take any luggage... I got so much grief about it.

I can only imagine what it would be like these days.

I usually fly without without luggage... Don't look like an avg. guy... Haven't had issues with tsa for several years now.

*knocks on the wood*

Also, the longer you wait to buy your ticket the more expensive it is.

I'm flying out on Mar 2, so I'm still 6 weeks out and the price just went up $20 in the past 3 days.

Myrtle Beach is the butthole of the Carolinas, that's how.

True, but if you play golf then you'll understand.

Luggage fees... hahaha.
Just don't take any luggage... that'll show 'em!

Kinda difficult when I'm going for a week and I've got golf clubs.

That price was on expedia, but all the sites have the same price right now. As much as I'd love to book the flight to Atlanta and get off in MB, since I have to connect to MB in Atlanta, that's really not going to work very well.

Everything you read and see on TV says that airline prices usually dip after the holidays, as people don't have as much $$ to spend on flights. Guess that ain't happening this year.

When i used to live in montreal, i would wait until friday to buy my ticket for saturday one way from EWR to YYZ (or visa versa)... $75. SHIP IT.

I get standby tickets across the world for 50$ ... sometimes you don't get on, never happened to me but it's always a trip anticipating whether you will or won't get on the plane.

Got promoted to business class one time. That's when I knew my IM game has evolved to this whole new level.

True story bros.

For ASW I was going to buy a ticket for $450 and I left the page open and took a shower and when I came back the price went up to $640 + fee just because it was the last 3 seats. Yeah airlines fucking ripoffs

None of the airlines must be eligible for bankruptcy hence accurate prices.

You need to play this game before you're in any position to bitch about the cost of routes.

Adjusted for inflation, air travel costs have gone down. This doesn't include the effect of unbundling things like baggage fees, but it's still one of the few services/products that cheaper now than it used to be.

Considering the current cost of jet fuel, it's still a good bargain.

Oh, the cost differential between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington is just supply and demand. Airlines raise seat prices as inventory goes down. Look at prices for flying to Indianapolis close to when the Superbowl happens, and then farther away. Basically, they don't charge cost+fixed margin. They charge what the market will bear, which is some cases, is less than cost.
