can somebody explain to me what a monthly retainer is?

what does it mean when an SEO company says we require a minimum monthly retainer of $5,000?

They want 5 Grand. Use some of the seo services here. You can look at there feedback. Read a lot of posts... lots of excellent information on this forum.

P.S. why are you reading this... get to work.

It means they want 5K for you to be their customer. Retainer basically means you have a budget to be spent on various SEO tasks such as linkbuilding, consulting, on page stuff etc. You will then be billed at an exorbiant hourly rate.

Retainer fee for seo is after we do all the work we want more money out of you asshole. Were going to charge you 5k a month and probably spend a few hundreds dollars making sure everything is alright. And you're to dumb to know this. It's like getting money for free!

but why would they set a fixed fee without knowing the work involved on each project?

I just really dont get why so many agencies use the monthly retainer model.

You sucks at maths

You pay me 5k a month. My consulting fee is 200/hr. everytime we talk on phone, IM, emails , Skype, etc. I'm billing you off the retainer.

Oh what is that. You want me to search keywords, back links, etc. that's extra.

but who in their right mind would pay that much just for talking on the phone and emails?

why would a company choose to do that instead of hiring their own full-time inhouse seo for the same price and have him do all link building + research etc...?

Because 90% of "in house" SEO's don't know their ears from their assholes. 100% of that 90% probably did this: Internet Marketing Bachelor's Degree : Full Sail Online and will spend 110% of the time fiddling with your title tags.
