Olympic opening ceremonies

Only watched part of it before becoming overwhelmingly annoyed that my tax money was being spent on bread and circuses. I have no problem with enormous jingoistic extravangazas, just being forced to pay for them.

The NHS bit was lul-worthy. WTF was that about? Two people in each bed? That about sums the NHS up these days.

Also I enjoyed this MP destroying his career on twitter by calling the ceremony "multi-cultural crap"

It was particularly sweet as he went to the same school I did, and he was an arrogant little prick then too.
Thought the NHS part was a slight dig at the Conservative government, which is why they played the exorcist theme during it.

Atleast we know America didn't invent WWW.. Lulz they butthurt and mad..

Well they invented the underlying network of the internet, Berners Lee just invented the world wide web part of it.

He invented it whilst at CERN, a European Union (plus norway and switzerland) funded institution so you could say a British employee of the EU invented the WWW.

I believe the 'TCP' part of TCP/IP was a British invention too. The UK government didn't see the point of it so no funding given and it was taken-up elsewhere.

Also the first industrial use of a computer was in England, which is fitting as the UK was the first industrialised nation.
