I have been working for two weeks for a client which is used to hiring "indians who develop entire sites for $10" and, of course, he refused to pay me because I charge too much by his standards.

I have explained him that I am providing high quality and real value for the money, rather than blatantly ripping off other sites, making the sites in MS Word, etc., but no luck.

I got paid half of the price (the 50% deposit I always request), and it feels bad. It's the first client that rips me off and it's a nightmare.

This motivates me to work even harder and attract another type of clients that pay for what my work is worth.

So anyway, if you have anything that motivates you to WORK HARD, please share it with me.
Thank you really much, guys.

We really need a spam registry to add people like that to. Something that signs them up for gay porn memberships, newsgroups, etc, monthly, forever. Maybe anchors their username/email to some really twisted shit posing as them saying they love to take it in the ass and rape children.

Maybe an open source project?

Motivate?

Fuck you. Getting ripped off is part of the business, build it into your pricing. Everyone has losses, why do you think you're special enough not to?

Sounds like an excellent option, we could gather a team of developers and automate this stuff. Or maybe hire an indian* for this, I heard they do this stuff for $10.

But, you see, most of us have something called morals and can't do something like this due to them. I have access to two of his main sites, but I can't mess them up and demand to be paid due to morals and honesty. Your idea is still A+, though.

*Not talking about respectable Indian web developers / designers / honest workers, but about those who clone websites for low price and make people think that's the right price to pay for any website.

Not funny in the slightest, but I understand it.

Man... there's too many threads like these.

I don't get you guys, don't you make it CLEAR at the beginning of the contract what it's gonna cost in total? Don't you make the client sign a contract stating that they agree with the tasks + price? Don't you have any payment terms that clearly state your deadline for receiving payments + penalty fees incurred if payments are late + legal actions if payments are not made? Your shit needs to look super professional if you want a client to take you seriously and not mess around with payments.

You want the client to look at your contract and think to himself: "fuck these guys are serious business, not like the other Indians I used to work with. I better make sure I have the funds before signing this shit"

So anyone who tries to offer a service that somehow beats yours is not an honest worker.

I think retailers price in 8.3% due to theft.

Stay the stoic, OP. It's the only way to do this.

That's ok. Presumably in your contract with him, you had a clause saying that you retain copyright of the work, and only either license or assign it once cleared funds are received in full?

In which case, just DMCA his host. He's breaching your copyright.

This "you charge too much" is bullshit. The time for those discussions is before you start work. He's breached his contract with you. Your only decision now is whether or not the cost of pursuing it is worth the amount owed.

^^ fucking valuable point. If your contract doesn't retain copyright, take a lesson learned and move on. That's how photographers work, graphic artists, 3d modelers, etc

This is what motivates me.

I might only be alive another 5 minutes, or maybe another 50 years. I have a limited amount of time to do everything I want to do, which is almost everything there is to do.

I don't have time to get down, feel sorry for myself or get angry. I do fall into that (imperfect man), but I don't have time for it, and urgency is what shakes me out of getting too down or depressed.

Life is awesome.

Other people may suck though. When they screw you over, learn from it. In a roundabout way, they are doing you a favor, teaching you a tough lesson about trust and at the same time, helping you appreciate those people (as few as they are) that are decent and honest.

You've got to improve your business model, and when you do there will be a payoff with more profit, prestige, opportunity etc.

Stay the course. Also, if you've got SEO skills and you think you know what you're doing, hit me up. I can probably pass you some referrals. People are constantly asking me for SEO help/consulting, and I do neither.

Facing up to the fact that your life is finite and may run out at any time is the best motivator I've found.
