Chances are Barry Bonds will be breaking the homerun record within the next couple of days. Does anybody really care? It seems like most people are resigned to the fact that he cheated to get to this point, and even top baseball execs are cautious about the whole situation. I mean, what does it say when the commisioner of baseball won't confirm that he'll even acknowledge Barry when he breaks the record??

fuck that bastard. It's pathetic to even be saying he is in the same league as the record holders.

Just my 2cents.

< giants fan btw.

IT is indeed a weird situation.

I have been a Barry Bonds fan for life but I also have a feeling that he cheated. So i really have a mixed feeling about this.

Fact is (and yes I am a BB fan) that he will be breaking the record so I do watch the games. There will still be people applauding him (especially in San Francisco) when he does it.

I'm up in the air about the whole steroids issue but I think Bonds is one of the top 10... maybe even top 5 guys to play the game.

What's funny is all this steroid talk but no one mentions that back in the 50's thru even today a large % of players were hopped up on speed when playing.

He was an amazing player before the streroids issue, and he's still an amazing player now.

If sports teams are willing to pay people millions of dollars to be good, and if doping it up when you're worn out and old to continue playing like a champ is something you need to do, then go for it. Because they aren't leading normal lives to begin with, and this is just what happens when the sporting world overpays and makes up their own rules of what is fair and not fair. So let him and alllllll the other professional athletes dope and enhance themselves, because they'll all end up in pain or dying earlier anyway and it doesn't hurt anyone else but themselves.

For all of you who like to hate on the players who took steroids you should consider the fact that at the time steroids was rampant in major league baseball, the league administrators did nothing to curtail the use of steroids. The league knew what was going on and decided not to police the situation as they should have. Without proper testing and supervision players were under tremendous pressure to use steroids just to keep up with the other players in the league. If the league would have taken care of business by implementing stricter testing and just policing it better in general then they could have kept it from getting so out of hand. I think it's lame to look back and put all the blame on the players. The fault lies just as much with the league yet the ones getting all the negative attention are a very small handful of players.

As for Barry Bonds he is probably the greatest player ever to play the game. He hit for power and average, he had great speed, and he won gold gloves. It looks like he did take some type of performance enhancing drug, but so was everyone else at the time and steroids don't hit home runs. Barry Bonds is a great hitter and that's why he has so many home runs.

Seconded. Out of every sport known to man, baseball requires the LEAST amount of talent. Not to mention it's boring as fuck.

Football is only a few weeks away or so. NOW THAT'S A MOTHERFUCKING SPORT!

Oh god I can't wait. I got the fucking itch!!!!!!

I love baseball. I don't like Barry. I think he should be given credit for what he did, but he's not in the same league as the real legends, IMO.

I agree with anonymous too. Many of those guys didn't take steroids to cheat. They where taking steroids because they'd be at a disadvantage if they didn't, because everyone else took them.

It's a wierd situation, and I've got more important shit to worry about, so I guess I really don't care.

I definately agree... I just think it does a disservice to people like Ruth and Aaron and Mays, people that performed on sheer talent. I mean, when Babe Ruth played, the balls were dead and the fences were deeper!!

The least amount of talent? You can give baseball all that shit about "standing around," because all that's true. But it DEFINITELY does not require the least amount of talent. Are you saying that it's easier than any other action in sports to 1) hit a tiny ball with a round tiny bat at 90mph and hit it up to 400ft 2) catch said tiny ball from a distance of up to 400ft 3) pitch said ball 90mph, applying enough spin to make it break 4) throw said ball up to 200ft?

I'm pretty sure it requires an awful lot of talent.

There is NO DOUBT playing baseball requires talent, though I just cant stand what happened to the sport. I use to live, eat and sleep baseball, that came to an end back in 85, 86....... My hero's as a child were guys like Doc Gooden, Darrel Stawberry, Pete Rose ...... See a pattern?

To be the greatest in the game of baseball you need 5 tools...

1. Hitting
2. Fielding
3. Good Arm
4. Speed
5. Hitting for power

Considering there is maybe 10 people to ever play the game with all 5 of these skills throughout their career... I'd say the sport requires an awful lot of talent.

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. Baseball sucks, and it's boring. You want a real sport... try Ice Hockey. The baddest game in the land.
