Come on, out with it, where are my runners? Just ran for 30 mins today. Wanna know why I do it? It's like saving money in the bank. I cash out on the weekend and rape my body like I'm still 18. DO IT FAGGOTS.

In seriousness, I run about 4 times a week. I refuse to run a treadmill though, especially because the roads around here get almost no traffic. I run mostly because it clears my mind and the natural landscaping near sunset is pretty awesome to see.

I was thinking about making a thread about this. I started running a few weeks ago and am hooked. I twisted my ankle after a few days because I was running in garbage shoes. I had to take like 2 weeks off but I'm good right now. Learned my lesson and picked up a sweet pair of lime green Brooks (they're vegan too!). What a difference a good pair of running shoes makes. Running about 5-6 times a week now.

I've set a goal of running a sub 20 minute 5k. I started at around 32 minutes and had my best time yesterday at 23:46. First time I broke the 25 min mark...had some downhill but I'll take it :)

What apps is everyone using?

I've tried My Tracks, Nike, Map My Run, Runtastic and Endomondo.

I've stuck with Runtastic and Endomondo. Runtastic seems to always be off on the mileage compared to the other apps (shows less) but I like the layout.

I run in Feiyues. They're like the opposite of good running shoes. They are cheap and have no padding, arch support, whatever. They feel great to me, though.

I would run for fitness, but it doesn't motivate me. I run for the high and to experience my body moving through space. If I run far enough and long enough, it inevitably reconnects me with the reality that nothing matters, I have nothing to lose or be afraid of, and I am able to shape my experience of reality with my intention and willpower. I lose this understanding as I get drawn into the lull of day to day life, but intense physical exertion brings it back without fail.

Makes me miss living right beside a world-class ski hill. There's no better exercise or stress reliever than skiing. That kicked ass. Take a couple days a week off, end up at the top of the peak looking out a breathtaking nature, just before you went screaming down a black diamond, leaving you breathless and tired by the time you got to the bottom.

I run 2 to 3 times per week, depending on the length of the days. Usually somewhere between 20 and 60 minutes. Started with a very bad fitness level during the summer of 2009 and kept going. I've done around 2000km and burned over 180000 calories since then.

I think it benefits my health a lot. I had regular back and knee problems before and got sick once a year or so. No problems since then and I haven't been sick in the last 3 years either.

In the beginning, I ran with RunKeeper on my iPhone. Upgraded to a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Forerunner-GPS-Enabled-Sports-Monitor/dp/B0046BTK14/"]Garmin Forerunner 401 with heart rate monitor[/ame] earlier this year, which is quite the bargain on Amazon. Now I use a great free tool called Fit2App to sync Garmin Connect with RunKeeper.

Indoor running is not for me, I like the outdoors too much. It gives me a good feeling (endorphines?) and helps me clear my mind.

I tried running with Vibram Five Fingers (Classics), but those things keep causing painful irritations around my achilles heel. Can't stand them very long :( Too bad, because I love the feeling of barefoot running.

I have those too, I wear em for lifting, indoor soccer, and stuff. Great shoes. I prefer more supple materials and mesh uppers for longer outdoor runs though.

RunKeeper is good too...

I need to get back into running. I was doing Couch-To-5K last fall but I tweaked my knee (bursitis) and spent the winter resting it, then never got around to starting again this year.

I was doing great. I lost 30 pounds. Now I've since gained back 35. :(

Try a minimalist shoe. I got the Brooks Pure Cadence. Pretty awesome running in these. Check out their Pure Project line: Brooks New PureProject.

Did 3k today. Trying to work up to about a 50k week.

Let me know how that works out in 6 months. You won't be running 10k 5 times a week or anywhere near that.

why not pick a fitness goal you'll actually reach? working out 2 to 5 hours a week would be a nice goal.

Read "Born to Run". It will change your life.

50k should easily be under 5 hours of running. It seems like a lot in mileage but time wise it really isn't if you're not running like a snail.

notice how a lot of people can run 5km like it's nothing? then slow quite a bit to hit 10k in a day? yea, that's why i don't think he'll be running 10k 5 times a day for more than a week.

possible but not likely.

Yeah I get it. But time wise it fits in the bracket you suggested :)

It's not a big deal when you break it down something like this. Keep in mind these are fairly easy times for even a half decent runner. The thing you have to understand is once you start running you get hooked. Anyone half serious about running is going to want to do at least 50k / week. It's addictive. And that's coming from someone who thought running was "boring". I don't know if pewep will do it, just saying it's not a big deal once you get into it.
