The black is glorified as an "artist" on MTV, as an "athlete" on ESPN, as a "victim" on CNN's Black History Month, as a "musician" on every radio station. What alternate reality do you live in?

Also, there is a lot of sexism in chess as far as titles go, but I won't go into all of that.
I looked her up, and the article makes her seem much closer to reaching 2200 USCF (needed for US Master) than she actually is. She's about the same number of rating points (~150) from making the Women's FM title (2100 FIDE).
She's currently the 35th highest-rated female in the United States, and the 1910th highest-rated player in the United States overall.
Anyway, the article is bullshit, but it's much more about sex and much less about race.
