Quitting smoking

I quit smoking ~1 pack a day roughly 170 days ago. Shit, almost half a year.

Anyway - this book was clutch. It took 2 attempts and a few weeks to finish it, but it was crucial for quitting (no patches or gum or whatever)

Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking: Allen Carr: 9780615482156: Amazon.com: Books

DO THIS!!!!

Someone on this forum recommended this book over a year ago and I read it. I was able to quit without any problems. I had tried to quit probably 20 times prior. I haven't had a cigarette or any nicotine since August 2011.

I also suggested this book to my brother and my fiancee and they were both able to quit after reading it too!

However you do it, you'll be glad you did. it's definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Good luck!

I quit 18 months ago. I used Champix. I took up cycling and bodybuilding and I never felt so good in my life.

Quit cold turkey about a year ago, one of the best decisions ever. It wasn't as hard as everyone made it out to be (not easy though). I had cravings of course and some sleep/irritability, but what shocked me was the fucked up nightmares.

Just switch over to something safer like ecigs or hookahs, kicking nicotine cold turkey will shit on your motivation imo

I used to do lead gen for personal injury lawyers. Chantix was one of the drugs we focused on.

I would read the experiences that our leads would send us: I remember one woman who was taking chantix would have dreams that she would eat her own baby alive.

Another guy emailed us from jail. He murdered his entire family.

Murders were common. Suicide was common. Blackouts were common.

I quit cold turkey in 2008.

You have to want to stop. You have to learn to dislike cigarettes. Your brain will try to fuck with you. Don't be weak. Don't have one.

Don't hang out with smokers either. Too easy to bum a cigarette in a weak moment.

Do it Mike. gl

This is the key to get it done.

But maybe shouldn't preach Im on it again now after 3 years.. I smoke about 1-2 cigarettes per week after saturday dinner. Buy a whole package smoke 2 then give the pack away...

BUt I remember when I was doing well, so did I remember my morning cough's when black/grey matter came up...

So maybe a Bedford Slim is a safer option ;)

I am going to champion the swedish Snus once again:

It's like an old school nicotine chewing gum, but tastes much better and gives a better effect. Tastes a bit like liqorice. The only risk is cancer in the mouth, but still far less harmful than smoking. For some reason Snus is banned in all of EU but Sweden. Probably some tobacco lobbying involved.

That there is so fucking good, the main problem is that when people start on it so will they usually stay on it for a while then the gradually goes back to cigarettes and use both og them..

That brand there is General and has tiny tiny hint of lemon in the flavour, def the biggest seller in sweden

The nicotine content is way higher as well, I have heard number up to the same amount as 3 cigarettes in a pouch like that and when you use it so will you soak up that patch in one our..

BTW the flavoured version are marketed to reach the female citizens

snus

Real men uses no pouch, it taste amazing. But anything sucks when it turns into a daily habit.

Yeah snus is much better. Cigarettes is really the peasent way of taking in tobacco. Only popular because the cool kids did it in early american movies. The taste of tobacco in cigarettes is crap, hardly any flavor at all. Just a shitload of additives to keep you addicted.

Quit the one smoke that absolutely you must have everyday. Post meal, post wake up, pre-sleep etc.. Anything that is a must have..
Mine was the potty smoke. I couldn't shit without a smoke.

The day I quit that was the day I quit smoking.

I've been smoke free for almost 7 years. Best thing I ever did. I used the patch and lots of lollipops. Good luck quitting again Mike.

Patch or if you need the "action" - Nicorette, great stuff, chewing it right now. All the Nicotine and none of the carcinogens. Stack it with some coffee or other caffeine and its a proven diet aid. Needs to be a rebill. Caffeine/Nicotine gum.

Cold turkey brah. Just muster up enough reasons to quit, and you will quit. Eventually.

You have to really mean it.

Now when I'm around cigs, I feel sick. I even had a smoke a few weeks ago just to test myself. Didn't want any more after that.

Fuck me man.

I broke tonight.

And here's my biggest problem:

I correlate working on the computer (web design, coding) with smoking cigarettes. I used to correlate alcohol and smoking (like cookies and milk), and that was easy to kick. But with my garage being my workspace, it's easy to smoke while I work and has become a pretty reliable habit.

Again, fuck me.

I'm sick of smelling like an ashtray and being a slave to a burning stick of death.

So... getting some Chantix to try help me quit smoking.

Curious if anyone else has experience with Chantix. Did it help?

I tried it and found myself tired all the time... like really tired, to the point of not even wanting to get out of bed. I stopped using it (the Australian equivalent anyway) two weeks in. Other folks I know have used it with little to no problems though.
