Using predictive analytics for client retention/CRM?

FYI, KM just hired 3 ML guys. I know because they tried hiring a friend who works in the finance department at a bank. To top it off, I don't think they are stopping there.

Not saying you can't be more agile and microtarget customers (they are going after maximum profits), I just thought you should be aware.

All that money they're getting from Adobe to compliment their Omniture product seems to be working well for them.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what is a ML guy?

Can you tell us something Kissmetrics can't do that you need it to do?

KISSmetrics can't build a model of your users from your data to help you identify what makes a user convert or not, nor can they tell you who will convert in the future based on that model.

KISS is good for reporting and data collection but they're in no way using non-linear machine learning algorithms to actually intelligently interpret the data, they just make your data more accessible for looking at stuff like linear conversion funnels

I am not sure the expectation that people are going to build a MLA for your funnel, or that works on all funnels is likely to be realized.

Fairly certain it is not possible to train an algorithm without understanding the funnel, the audience, the implicit context of the business.

People have usually modeled that for themselves when they analyze cohorts and cross-tabs.

If only entrepreneurship was an algorithm waiting to be written!
