Obama is evil because he doesn't like the military.
Romney would have been better because at least his views align with mine.
WWII was the only worth war of our time.
An afghanistan national killed his brother over 10 acres of land in an ungoverned environment, so anarchy is flawed.

These are the points I heard from a peer in the Marine Corps tonight, and I had to call it quits.

Anyone else with a reasonably backed opinion, please introduce yourself. I'm drunk, but this conversation had me rather heated. Sometimes, I dislike the fucking people I work with.
 


Can I ask, do you believe you were sent to Afghanistan for noble reasons?

Note: I have all the respect in the world for individual soldiers who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Definitely not an easy task, and without question would build character in (mostly) only good ways.

I went to Afghanistan because my wife, girlfriend at the time, became pregnant with our first child when we were 21. At the time, I had left the banking industry to work as a producer's assistant in the film industry, but was not making nearly enough money. Plus, I was combating an online gambling addiction.

The military has helped me mature in many ways. When I want to combat, I didn't agree with much that my country had told me. The problem was, it became a self-inflicted wound. I enlisted and put myself in a dangerous position, and suddenly I was at risk and forced to defend myself. My job is a radio operator in an infantry unit, but primarily I worked with our air officers to land air craft and employ missiles. I spent the majority of my time focused on getting medivacs called in for my fellow troops in an effective and timely manner, so much so that I received a Navy Commendation Medal. I've seen some ridiculous shit, and I'm ready to leave the military. I hate civilians because they think they understand why I hate the military, but they don't. And I don't think half of you know what's going on in this country.
 
I'm not questioning your personal morality, because just from your posts, I know it's definitely above average compared to most people. I'm also not questioning the individuals actions you took while out there, because like you've said many times, we simply don't understand, and I fully agree with that. And I hope I never have to understand what it's like to be in a war zone.

Still curious though, do you believe you were sent to Afghanistan for noble reasons?

Take it for what it's worth. I'm drunk right now, I drink a lot. Not to the point that I think I have a drinking problem, but my wife has definitely had to call blureach on an occasion.

But no. I do not think I was sent there for noble reasons.

Someone recently pointed out that 11 year olds in the U.S. don't know any better than the U.S. being at war. With all the Call of Duty games out, that concept scares the shit out of me.

I do believe people are inherently good though. Thus, my conflict with many of the conspiracies brought about on this forum.

Edit: I can type better drunk than most sober people.
 
I always wanted to join the Air Force, but couldn't after seeing how suicidal they've made the rules of engagement, especially after that helicopter fiasco where they could see who was shooting them, but had to request permission to fire back, leading to a historical loss of SEAL's lives.

The Communist Complex doesn't want the U.S. military to win wars. They've changed the rules of engagement in Afghanistan so much that you can know someone is a terrorist, but can't shoot them unless they have their weapon in their hand.

Wars nowadays have lost their moral clarity because the enemy within has grown so powerful. The only 100% just war in today's world is against Russia, China, their allies, and of course the communist menace within. But we fight their proxies instead of going to the source.
 
Yah, the ROEs from 2001-2006 are much different than 2007-present. And I'm sure we could have a drawn out discussion as to why that is, but I don't want to.

I'm not even an American yet I still think it is one of the most significant event in human's history. Worldwide democracy adoption, UN, free spech, internet and cold war which led to space exploration were all the result of WWII.

Anyway, I dont think that Obama hates the military....I just think he is an anti-colonialist and for want of a better word hates america for what it stands for. He wants to see a massive transfer of wealth from the developed world back to the third world.

Obama's goal is to re-shape american so that the 1% are less wealthy and more humble......but heres the problem...the 1% is a worldview of his. The WHOLE America is wealthier than the 3rd world so he considers all of you to be the 1%

I've been to Leatherneck a few times and that's only been on our way in or out of Afghanistan, and in between our movement to our FOBs.

I was at KAF once, and it was in transit on my way back home. The boardwalk gave me a really queasy feeling in my stomache. It was a fucking shopping and entertainment district like some kind of Disney Land. And then IDF is going off on the other side of the base while people are getting their hot dogs. Fuck that. I'll take a desolate outpost over that weird shit any day.
