I own a Mossberg .500 20 gauge, pistol grip, short barrel, adjustable stock. I love this piece. I really like the visible safety and how I can get through the house with it. Wife can shoot it as well.

Before people start flipping over the fact that it's a 20g. The 20g is far more efficient of a round than 12g. (Most of the bang, a lot less recoil). Perfect for multiple shots and wife usage.

20ga is a pretty useful round. Unfortunately in my area, defensive loadings for 20ga are very hard to find outside of slugs.

Additionally, with 12ga you can get ammo that has very low recoil (Nearly identical to 20ga) in defensive loadings.

Gotta disagree on the semi-auto. I don't have one yet, but fire a Saiga 12g on the regular. We can put just about anything through it. If a lighter recoil load isn't ejecting properly, just adjust the gas system. Once I can find one within reason, I will be replacing by HD shottie with a Saiga 12.

I guess I should have said standard American semis. Saigas, VEPRs and the new Chinese 12ga use a different method than the ones like a Mossberg 590 that requires high-brass/high recoil ammo.

and you can get the adapter from Cadiz Gunworks for $40 they have them for a variety of calibers. Just realize you need to get a $200 stamp from the ATF for this to be legal
 
Here's what I did today with a cheap(er) 22 rifle today at 50-60 yards with federal bulk pack. After the first 5 rounds it opened up a bit, but what makes me especially happy is just how much bulk pack I Put back at $13/box when it was cheap. Mind you, this is not benchrest firing.

I wanted a pump shotgun that I could add a longer barrel onto when I want to shoot peasants, er, pheasants. I wouldn't be afraid to drop this sucker in the mud and get it all banged up. It's just an all-around good shotgun.

Reminds me Boy Scouts don't let you pass until 5 shots fit in the diameter of a quarter. They called me the 1 out kid. Didn't get that last shot till the last day. Oh the memories a good little 22 can provide


Edit: Dwight you'll love that 870. It's a great all around shotgun. There isn't much you can't do with it
