A Question to Bosses

To those of you who have employees, how do you deal with this? As I get more and more legit, more people start looking up to me. Like, they admire me, pay *very* close attention to what I say, and, I can tell, that they truly believe in me.

Like, if they screw something I've assigned to them up, they get *really* sad because they've let me down.

It is as if I'm their father.

But, what they don't know is, I'm just like them and was in there position not so long ago.

I can tell they want my approval and admiration but all I wanna tell them is "dude, i'm not that different from you, I'm just trying my best just like you are." I just don't think saying that would be the best course of action because they've placed their dreams within me and, if I tell them that, they'll realize they must then fulfill their dream (and some of they don't have the willpower to do that).
 


Always execute the lowest performing employee on the first of every month.

It sets a standard, acts as a motivator, and consolidates power.

After a while, you'll notice people call in sick on the first of the month, so then you'll need to have random execution days.

You'll figure it out.

I thought like that once and someone told me there is only one *you*.

It's as simple as that, you may not feel better than them but you are and if the world was full of people who had things figured out and were always trying to be the best, we wouldnt have dudes who pick up our garbage.
 
Don't let them know you're scared. Because you will be. People depending on you is scary. But they've think you are worth trusting with their futures so start believing it.

Don't be friends, be a benevolent dictator. You know how they say you should never work with family or friends? Don't turn your employees into your friends. Makes it hard when it's time for you to put your boss hat on. They will resent you and you will feel like an asshole. Don't cross the line.
 
You are their superior. Treat them as such. If they fuck up, make them get it right. Do not let feelings get in the way of biz.

This is a good opportunity ,if your employees respect you so much..take their love and respect and develop your company along with them.Remember to increase their salary when your company develops :)

Don't get too familiar with them.

I made this mistake many times in the past and it just makes them lower their standards as they know I'd be more lenient. They'll take advantage of your soft heart. It's just how most employees are. Most of them don't want to be in the workforce. They'll be "yes sir" in front of you as they have mortgages to pay, they'll talk the talk about wanting to build their own empires one day - which just makes you even more sympathetic because you are building your empire and you understand how hard the process is. They'll show you respect because you're helping them feed their kids. In short don't trust them and don't get too familiar with them. Keep your standards high and fire them if you have to. I'd rather come across ruthless and tough now then kind and generous. They'll treat your kindness as weakness - which is a big mistake most people make. Time is the real test and only entrust them to the degree that they've earned that trust. Over time, when they've earned it, then let them in to your confidence, be as generous as you want. They've earned it and it sets a precendent for all the others to work towards.
 
Just.Be.Rational.

There's no place for personal emotions & drama in business. Just let them know that you highly value their input, work and dedication to your business and that their responsibilites/role within your company will grow with the company/business.

Keep them motivated, dedicated to the cause, happy (bonuses, validation, input etc.) and compensate them accordingly! If they work well, it's time to re-structure their role in your company. That's the only way you can grow well and fast. Furthermore, let them know that it's okay to screw up and that they should contact you if they have any issues/concerns.

But as SEO Genius stated, keep your standards well structured too! If they screw up over and over again, it's time to let them go. Even if you have developed some sort of friendly 'relationship' with them. If they hinder your company/business from expanding fire their a**es.

TL;DR: Keep it rational & professional!
