So I'm working on some projects with a buddy who lives in a different city. I'm just wondering what people use to pass ideas back and forth, keep to do lists, and keep everything organized.

Any suggestions?

I have used Pivotal Tracker for task lists. But you can use something as simple as Google Drive or Dropbox with a file.

For code use something like GitHub.

Looking forward to seeing other suggestions.

Trello is good for simple collaboration as it is free and works on any device. e.g. list for buddy to see/do, list for you to see/do, list for done/reference (you can add other lists as required and easily drag items around). You can attach files and highlight cards/items in various ways. They have recently added a calendar function for reminders.

Use the phone and meetup to work together as often as possible. Working remotely is very hard to do. Accountability is almost nil.

I'm really liking basecamp atm just for personal organisation, without even getting into collaboration (although that will start soon). Zapier looks pretty cool, it can integrate a ton of services like that together.

Lately it's been Podio to keep track of things. Can easily build customized forms to collect and manage what you need.
