Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Who's Got It?

Get a set of braces. Wear them.

The problem with RSI is that once it becomes inflamed, it's easy to inflame again.

Braces will force your wrists to be at the correct angle. It will take a little get used to, but you will be able to work without pain, and it will help you improve your posture.

Also, use voice more.

Surgery should always be a last resort.

Braces do help. I'm going to start icing my wrists down every night too.

.

Yea my wrists / hands / elbows are fucked...and i'm only 21.

I find swimming, and doing gay little exercises like wrist curls helps a lot. also stretchingthe fuck out of my shoulders/elbows/wrists. I've managed to get back to a pretty good amount of work, but i still cant hit 8 hours a day without pain, even if im taking regular breaks.

I'm 30 and I think it's starting to set in. Just over the past few months my fingers started getting that more old and wrinkled look. Really makes you realize your youth is gone.

I work with my hands a lot even away from computers (I live on a small farm and do plenty of manual labor...lots of wrenching on cars & tractors too). Just over the past few months I've noticed my hands are sore and swollen a lot of the time.

So I guess what I'm saying is once you turn 30 its all downhill from there. Enjoy your youth while it lasts.

If you lay your arm flat on your desk with the elbow at the edge of the desk and the whole forearm supported with the palm of your hand in a mousing position, there should be a gap about three inches long and about a half an inch high from the heel of your hand along the length of your wrist where your wrist doesn't even touch the desk. ie, no pressure at all. Jamming something into that gap does then apply pressure that normally would not even be there.

I hate arm rests. They only add more pressure to your arms and encourage you to slouch and support your upper body weight on them, ultimately causing shoulder shrug and problems in the shoulders and neck. If you remove the arms from your chair and use a keyboard tray then your arms hang at a natural angle without any pressure at all and it also keeps your from slouching as much.

<< I would add a chair with a high back and head rest.
I find this to be a better sitting position.
