My left arm is numb on the bottom from the elbow to the tips of my fingers. Mostly my little finger, ring finger, and thumb.

I've wondered when this was going to happen, and I know a few people who've had surgery, etc.

I figured there must be a gay webmaster or 10 on here who has some experience with this.

My posture is awful, and I don't get enough exercise. So, I'm pretty sure these are contributing factors, but I'd like to be able to type in 5 years, regardless.

Yep. Both hands, but my right one was much worse.

Had surgery done on it. Much better.

My left only gets bad if I play video games for more than an hour.

Get the surgery. It's cheap as far as surgeries go, and totally worth it.

Do you use a desk with a keyboard tray?

I HATE them, so I keep my keyboard on my desktop, but I think the angle is ruining me.

Get a set of braces. Wear them.

The problem with RSI is that once it becomes inflamed, it's easy to inflame again.

Braces will force your wrists to be at the correct angle. It will take a little get used to, but you will be able to work without pain, and it will help you improve your posture.

Also, use voice more.

Surgery should always be a last resort.

Sounds like you kind of already know the issues. People scoff at my $1k Embody and $1k Geek Desk. Step your ergo game up. Grab an ergo or mechanical keyboard and a solid mouse.

Also, braces? I've tried such things when I get occasional wrist or hand pain, honestly seems to make the shit worse.

Thanks for the link.

Currently, I've got my arm taped up like Tyson before a fight, but I'll upgrade to something a little better once I can figure out what to get. I'm REALLY not into the idea of being cut.

Those Geek Desks look pretty nice, their main selling point is the adjustable height. I'm wondering if I can just get a desk with a KB tray and force myself to use it.

I think you'd be selling yourself short with a keyboard tray. Yes the main point of the Geek Desk's is it's adjustable height, but it's the fact that you can set the height to the perfect setting whether sitting or standing, rather than just close enough. Mine goes to .1 of an inch. Worth every penny.

So you could work half the day sitting and half the day standing pretty easily, huh? That's appealing as hell to me.

edit: just watched the demo video, and I'm really impressed. Also, they sell a frame-only version which is appealing to me since I hate the look of beech or black veneer. (they call me Mahogany for a reason)

Also, I'm looking at shit like this:

I have no idea if I could ever use something like that, but I think it's worth a shot at least.

I used to have carpal tunnel really bad. I tried everything include the wrist braces, multiple ergo devices, etc.

This [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Natural-Ergonomic-Desktop-7000/dp/B000Q6UZBM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368079440&sr=8-1&keywords=microsoft+ergonomic+mouse+7000"]ergo mouse and keyboard[/ame] made it go away. I highly recommend the mouse if nothing else.

Ouch sorry to hear that. Years ago my right thumb started to go numb so I swapped my mouse for a pen and pad thing. It worked. Good luck bro.

Most issues related to long term computer use are user error. I started having issues where wrist/hand pains developed after sustained use. I now use a flat tabletop which I can adjust in conjunction with a chair where arm support aligns perfectly with the tabletop. Having your wrist bent at all will create issues.

I'm really careful with the ergonomics and don't anticipate needing surgery for that aspect. My eyes aren't getting any better and that's what I see as a potentially limiting factor for more people than me.

Yup I have issues with it too, I feel numbness in the middle top of my wrist and around the ring finger. Sucks ass. But I know it's because of my current small mouse, gotta get a nice ergo mouse

18 years working at the computer. Don't have it nor will I ever. Stretch out you hands while you are reading.

If someone with CPS has extra weight on them, they should lose it. It makes a difference even if its just 10-20lbs.

This is why I'm glad I started using a track ball early...

Not only is this shit easier to use, but it makes you more clutch in FPS games (Yea you guerilla).

Try it out. It might be weird to use at first, but it's so much better than a regular mouse.
