Chiang Mai == Noobie Heaven?

And for those in Thailand, isn't the weather absolutely lovely? It's only +23C out right now -- beautiful! I expect the parkas to come out any day now.

heh, that gives me a chuckle every year. It's +19C, and they're bundled up as if it's -30C or something. heh.

hey henry ford --

1) i hate your habit of deleting your own posts, why not leave em up? who cares??

2) if you're able to sign a lease like that in thai without dox, how risky is it that they might throw your ass out at will? not asking to be a smartass, genuinely interested.

Obviously, I do. Nah, it's mainly because after posting I realize what the potential replies from guys like bluechinagroup are, and don't feel like getting into it with them.

Who cares? That means I'm out an $800 deposit, and move on to a new house. Besides, I don't expect to ever see that deposit again anyway. This is Thailand -- you don't give people money, and expect to get it back.

They're not going to kick me out anyway. I'm a clean cut, well dressed white guy in his early 30s, who has (in their mind) lots of cash. Plus I don't party, do drugs, hookers, nothing. I basically just hang out with my dogs and whiskey, type code, and save my monies. I'm about as good of a tenant as you're going to get. Besides, owner lives in Germany anyway.

To genuinely answer though, that's just not the way society here works. How do I put this? Respect comes above formality here, so as long as you're a good guy, polite and respectful, you're fine. They try to be professional, but just aren't very good at it, as I proved. They required me to sign a lease, but didn't even ask for ID. What are they going to do? Sue Henry Ford? So they try, but again, respect is what matters most here.

Hong Kong is the same way. I love it when Hong Kongers take out their winter clothes. It's always complete overkill.

Also there's nothing wrong nor illegal about signing a contract under an alias without any ID. At least in the common law world, using a professional name is fine as long as you're not committing fraud with it.

In Hong Kong you can do it and it would be viewed as a legally binding contract by the judiciary.
