Obviously, I do. Nah, it's mainly because after posting I realize what the potential replies from guys like bluechinagroup are, and don't feel like getting into it with them.
2) if you're able to sign a lease like that in thai without dox, how risky is it that they might throw your ass out at will? not asking to be a smartass, genuinely interested.
Who cares? That means I'm out an $800 deposit, and move on to a new house. Besides, I don't expect to ever see that deposit again anyway. This is Thailand -- you don't give people money, and expect to get it back.
They're not going to kick me out anyway. I'm a clean cut, well dressed white guy in his early 30s, who has (in their mind) lots of cash. Plus I don't party, do drugs, hookers, nothing. I basically just hang out with my dogs and whiskey, type code, and save my monies. I'm about as good of a tenant as you're going to get. Besides, owner lives in Germany anyway.
To genuinely answer though, that's just not the way society here works. How do I put this? Respect comes above formality here, so as long as you're a good guy, polite and respectful, you're fine. They try to be professional, but just aren't very good at it, as I proved. They required me to sign a lease, but didn't even ask for ID. What are they going to do? Sue Henry Ford? So they try, but again, respect is what matters most here.
