I have just bought a CD with a couple of thousand new fonts which are all alphabetically in order. I am looking for a vista compatible program which allows me to mass install all the fonts in all the directories at one. I'm running vista so some of the free stuff does not work/

Any ideas on what might do the trick?

What kind of fonts are they?
I have probably 60k fonts on my external HD and I can just drag and drop them into the fonts folder all at once, and they install themselves...

There are a few types of font files, and some of them are weird...

But, have you tried just dragging and dropping them into the Control Panel > Fonts folder all at once?

They are in folders like

fonts
fonts/a
fonts/a/fontname

Inside each folder is aslo a setup and AFM file

If i go to control panel. install font i would need to access each folder one by one

Does installing all of those fonts slow your comp down to shit?

I'm not using Vista, so this may not work.

You should be able to just do a find file for all files that end in TTF (*.ttf) and only look in your CD drive, then drag all of them into your fonts folder on your C: drive. For me with windows XP, it's c:\windows\fonts

Good luck,
Steve

lol, crazy people, you need a fontbook application!

For windows, use extensis suitcase: Font Manager Software | Suitcase Fusion | Suitcase for Windows |Suitcase Server | Font Reserve Server and other Font Management Solutions

It's not too expensive, if you are a cheap ass I'm sure you can "find" it for quite a bit cheaper if you know what I mean.

Suitcase is a MUST HAVE program for windows if you have anything over 1k fonts.

In short, it allows you to enable and disable fonts on the fly... so you don't have thousands of fonts slowing down your system. It has an amazing preview feature, great for checking out what font will look good in a logo or on a header. Have it automatically run at startup, each font you enabled will stay enabled on restarts.

This shit should have came packaged with windows, haha.

Does that briefcase thing work with Photoshop? That's the only thing I use extra fonts for .. I don't install extra fonts for Windows itself, as I hear that slows your system down a lot.

It works...but does not auto-load fonts in Photoshop...on PC's...which is lame.
It works though, and you can load a font right away without having to reload Photoshop. I like it...but wish it had the autoload feature on PC. :(

Briefcase = suitcase?

If so, yes, if you have the fonts enabled then all programs will load/use the font. Perhaps you have an older version jason? Or, go to Edit > Preferences > Activation. Then switch the default to "Permanent"

Thanks, downloading it now. The feature list for that app looks orgasmic. I've been wanting a way to organize my fonts better! Grouping! Gothic Fonts, Tech Fonts, Grunge Fonts, Dingbats Fonts...

If I make them permanent...isn't that just like installing them? Isn't that the point of using suitcase...to avoid installing hundreds of fonts?

When you are done with a font you can easily disable it. The permanent feature just makes it so if you enable a font, and your system is restarted, the font is still enabled. Very convenient.

Supergeek - Yes, what did I do before font grouping? Haha.
