Force Lower Gas Prices

I got an email that wanted everyone to stop buying from the two biggest gas companies-Exxon and Mobil until gas goes to $2.00 a gallon again.

I wonder if people really did it, if it would really help gas prices drop. Lower gas prices.......now THAT would stimulate the economy without putting us in debt like those stimulus checks! I don't think it would hurt to try it. Maybe it could give the little guys some help, too!
 


I'm so sick of seeing that chain letter. Whoever started it has (at best) a flimsy grasp of the concept of supply and demand.
 
Doubt it would do much. You would have to get a MASSIVE amount of people to do it for more than a day to scare the oil companies.
 
Yep..Prices are here to stay. That is unless all the politicians die and all branches of the government are taken over by Reagan Republicans...WTF...a guy can dream can't he.

Seriously, all of the experts claim (even my hero T.Boone Pickens) say we will never see under $3 again.
 
Low gas prices are now over. The middle class of China and India is growing and consuming, this means they require more oil for industry, agriculture, products, energy and gas. Millions of cars are coming onto the roads of China each year. Oil is a finite resource so more demand and diminishing supply; do the math.
 
I heard people talking about the same thing a couple years back when everyone was scared that it was getting close to 3 dollars. Something like this could work for a little while but there are just to many idiots who don't care enough to ever make something like this a reality.

It's not just that the boycott will fail. Even if people do stick to the boycott, the scheme still won't work for a number of reasons.

One reason is that oil/gas are both commodities. So, even if everyone sticks to the boycott and only buys Shell instead of ExxonMobile, prices will stay the same. All Exxon will do is take their gas, and resell it to Shell. If consumers will pay $4.00 or Shell, and $3.00 for Exxon, then Exxon will just sell all their gas to Shell for $3.98.

Boycotting one commodity supplier doesn't really change aggregate demand or even aggregate supply. Unless people drill more gas (increase aggregate supply) or use less gas (decrease aggregate supply), the price isn't moving any time soon (for the most part).
 
There's no lingering oil supplies anywhere, and we are no where near depleting all the oil the Earth has to provide us (and then its not like we don't have alternative fuels... gas in Thailand run off natural gas, and now we have the all electric Tesla).

Oil companies are simply just capitalizing on the fact that people have moved further away from work, consumer fear, and the state of the economy. If one of the top guys in the office of one of these massive companies said... I feel like gas should only be 1 buck a gallon today, he could drop the prices of oil and still be making a profit.... its just that the profit would be cut down to a 4th or 10th (depending where the oil is being sent) of what he used to be making. People be greedy, yo.
 
When people started going to movie theaters less often because of crappy movies/netflix/TIVO/VOD, did ticket prices go down? Hell no. $10.50 a piece by me last time I checked.
 
The only way to stop increasing gas prices is to stop using it or increase its supply.

What have we done to stabilize the price of oil? NOTHING. There is a lot of oil in the US but no new refineries have been built here since 1976.

Alternative energy technology is moving at a snails pace. Not sure if an all electric car will solve all the problems but I can't wait to see some for sale (cheap).We will see $8 per gallon within 3-4 years. Shit at this current pace it might be 2-3 years.
