That's not at all fair. When a guy is put in front of a publicly held company that's market capped in the billions, you will NEVER again get a similar position if you leave on anything but the best of terms.

The CEO is responsible to the shareholders and SEC 100%, so that's a huge risk. If he gets fired, no way is he ever going to get that large of a job ever again. The SEC can lock his ass up, the lawsuits he can have are immense, etc.

$25MM CEO salary for a company like Ford, GM, or Chrysler is cheap in my book..

It's just frustrating that people don't understand that the reason why these companies are fucked up, is the same reason why the economy is crashing. They would have died a long time ago, if there was a sane (natural, free market) economic system.

Or they would have grown balls and pwned the world.

Im involved heavily in the auto industry too. Hang in there, work hard and try to make it on your own. There is no such thing as job security nowadays.

Agreed. The big 3 has been trying to hang on to their hayday for years. The credit bubble just helped them stay afloat with imaginary money.

IMO, and I'm sure people will hate me for saying this but, unions have a huge part in this particular case. Unions have slowly sapped the industry to a point where we can't be competitive any more. Do you think unions are popular in China and India?
