I do obviously, although if some people knew how much time I spent on here perhaps that would change.
What proportion of you guys are 'free'?
What proportion of you guys are 'free'?
I do because it'd be fucking stupid to walk away from the money I make, but I telecommute from my pimp home office so it's quite easy to squeeze extra hours out of my day for AM. Plus the shit I get to do is not normal IT, it's exciting, dangerous, and if I'm lucky, once a year a little James Bondish!
Bottom line is money, if you can get a job where they pay you for what you know in a pinch, versus what you do each hour, you're set! I'll break $200K this year at the rate I'm going, goal for 2010 is do do $200K/quarter doing AM full time.
Same boat, work from home almost exclusively. Get paid for what I know when shit breaks, not for an hourly task. Its not crazy $$, but its a guaranteed substantial paycheck.
surrounded by winners, now I feel like shit
Yup. Plus 8% retirement match (state gov't) and awesome healthcare for cheap. Plus I get paid hella pimp. (Sr. Web Architect!)
I'll never work in a cubicle again or wear biz casual.
Did they require that you have a Computer Science degree your Gov't job?
A CS degree covers about .01% of what I do, so no, that degree is largely worthless in my position.
CS degrees are bullshit to begin with.
