I do obviously, although if some people knew how much time I spent on here perhaps that would change. :p

What proportion of you guys are 'free'?

I do because it'd be fucking stupid to walk away from the money I make, but I telecommute from my pimp home office so it's quite easy to squeeze extra hours out of my day for AM. Plus the shit I get to do is not normal IT, it's exciting, dangerous, and if I'm lucky, once a year a little James Bondish!

Bottom line is money, if you can get a job where they pay you for what you know in a pinch, versus what you do each hour, you're set! I'll break $200K this year at the rate I'm going, goal for 2010 is do do $200K/quarter doing AM full time.

Nope, no more 9 to 5 for me EVER, there is so many different ways to make money on and offline, I will never work for anyone again.

Same boat, work from home almost exclusively. Get paid for what I know when shit breaks, not for an hourly task. Its not crazy $$, but its a guaranteed substantial paycheck.

Yup. Plus 8% retirement match (state gov't) and awesome healthcare for cheap. Plus I get paid hella pimp. (Sr. Web Architect!)

I'll never work in a cubicle again or wear biz casual.

I keep my job at Domino's because I enjoy adding special toppings to the food and helping out the company's overall public image.

Quit my job and moved to consulting to make ends meet while getting the hand of AM. 2009 dropped all my clients and have never looked back.

In the past three 4 years I got to quit 4 jobs... nothing better than saying "i'm out of here"

I almost want to take a full time job just to do it again :)

Full-time over here goin on 2 years now. Sure beats the fuck out of
a machine shop.

i was bed ridden coz of an ailment, 3 years ago......i didnt have any 9-5 options........was a difficult time with not stable cashflow at that time. after a couple of years managed to borrow some money from a property asset i have and since then working online full time.
Not had a lot of success, but still doing good and my business is also getting established with time.

Did they require that you have a Computer Science degree your Gov't job?

[FONT=&quot] 9 - 5.... keep on trucking....

problem is i like my job....no ass bosses, good benefits, friendly ppl… perhaps that is the worst kind of prison?... not knowing you’re in one….

although this thread has given me some ideas on perhaps cutting back on hours and/or working from home more as my job allows that….

A CS degree covers about .01% of what I do, so no, that degree is largely worthless in my position.

CS degrees are bullshit to begin with.

As is a business degree in Information Systems, 99% useless. By my second year in my job I had already surpassed the college courses I was taking, and I quit college.

Right. I was wondering if a rigid institution like a gov't would require some kind of formality.

A lot of Web Architect jobs (All Web Architect Jobs | Indeed.com) seem to require a CS degree. I'd like to get into that line of work as well but my background's in acct/finance, so that's why I was curious.
