This probably had to be approved with the producers of the show or some semi-bigwigs at MTV. I can't see MTV wanting to alienate eminem by conspiring to drop a mans crotch into his face.
It's easier to see eminem being a cohen fan and being ok with some trumped up controversy/publicity.
