Everyone has at least one thing that they turn into a fanboy or geek for, or at least secretly love. What's yours?

Mine is sadly, marching band and drum corps. I write the music for shows for high schools even. I play french horn so I nerd out about it. Worth watching:

Now, you?

Aren't you the guy working on a phd in physics? And you play french horn and jizz yours pants over marching bands?

Stereotypes are fucking awesome.

hell yes, but I'm not a "band geek", it's just something I enjoy. creativity, writing the music, etc. I've played in a symphony orchestra for 4 straight years now.

at the same time, I'm a baseball fan, like watching drag races, and go to parties, so figure that out.

and since when is there a scientist + marching band stereotype?

hmm... i think the only thing i do out of the ordinary on the regular is watch a lot of strongman comp vids, etc on youtube. can't ever improve your technique enough y'know. that switches over to ski porn in the winter.

Just a general band geek(just figured you were one) = overall geek stereotype. But don't sweat it. I'd give a kidney to have your brains.

hey I'm used to the stereotypes, no biggie. it's become a weird activity, because modern bands are so athletically demanding now. running while playing, breathing control, "band camp" has evolved into a month long training session with physical training (we did more physical work than the ROTC kids did). it's gotten super competitive, so everyone wants to one-up everyone else.

this was on ESPN about it, check it out:

Guns and Cars are high on my list, but something that fits in with the "geek out" term I'd have to say is techy stuff, especially when its Apple. Whenever a new operating system or something comes out I'm usually there at midnight to get it and try out the new toys.

I'm big into cars. Right now I have some weird obsession with monitors and SSD drives, and I read about DJ equipment all day, but I don't DJ (yet).

Physics, Warhammer (though not the game any more, more the fiction) and philosophy & economics.
