Parasitical Government Employees Doing AWESOME During Recession

What does create wealth mean to you? Is it synonymous with creating value or does it hinge on commercial viability in the market as well as intrinsic product/service value?

Also, if private businesses are making less and the value of the dollar is declining and whatnot wouldn't that mean less tax income for the goverment? How does that fit in here?

Technically speaking, we could just divide companies into those that are profitable and those that aren't.

The ones that are profitable actually create wealth and contribute to the growth and well-being of the United States as a nation.

Those that don't, go bankrupt.

Except, of course, in the arena of government, where you have literally hundreds (if not thousands) of companies that never make a profit and only survive because of the profitable American entrepeneurs and businessmen who make it possible. They're parasites. Leaches. Their very survival depends upon the businessmen, corporations, and other 'evil' profiteers who are so routinely demonized and vilified.

The fact that the wealth producers are suffering while the parasites are thriving demonstrates in stark clarity how the governing fiscal philosophy has become so twisted and out of sync with reality.

You're making it sound like there are all these noble corporations out there who don't already use the government to their advantage, or who wouldn't seek their own bailout when needed.

Do you know your tax money was used to help Jim Beam advertise overseas? I don't have anything against Jim Beam, but that is just one little example of thousands.

Somebody that works for their money is a hell of a lot more noble than somebody that steals it.

And if the government truly stayed out of business, do you think any of these corporations would even need to lobby them? If legislators hewed to free-market principles, do you think corporations would even bother trying to get a bailout? Of course not. Government invented regulation in order to get power over the private sector; private companies were then forced to lobby them because if they didn't, somebody else would.

hellblazer... do you even do marketing or do you just start flame wars here?

Mostly flame wars, usually about highly controversial issues like government employees doing great in a recession. I figured an incendiary, hot-button topic like the wasting of taxpayer money would really create a nice fissure among the good members of WF.

A corporation is a government established concept. People are free to have group business partnerships without being a corporation, and thus without corporate taxes. People keep forming corporations though, so they must believe that the government granted benefits of having a corporation outweigh the negatives.

This is a very good post, and I normally don't agree with you. I do have an issue with the last bit though. It is true, people would only voluntarily register a corporation if they thought it was in their favor (example of rational/ends directed human action).

The problem is, corporations are an artificial form of privilege, and so people keep registering them in a race to the bottom.

It's an example of how government can skew incentives by offering privileges to some and not all.

Fuck yeah... moar of that photo shoot! That is hawt!

The thing is what this article also fails to say is that many workers such as postal workers have been laid off and the higher ups are actually trying to cut salary and benefits while they are taking bonuses and getting their salaries increase for doing nothing. In a lot of these government offices they could fire half the staff and no one would even know they were missing.

The lazy, imcopetant fucks should be laid off. They lose billions of dollars a year. Should they recieve bonuses?
