I can't focus, I think I have ADD

Everytime I want to do something, I always get distracted in the process and end up taking forever to finish a task.

Example, I want to buy a domain, I launch my browser and I will end up at ESPN or wickedfire because while waiting for my browser to launch, my mind will go through lots of things and get distracted.

I noticed alcohol can slow my brain down a little and I become a bit more focused, but I am not much of an alcohol guy. What do you do when you have trouble focus? Ideas? Suggestions?

This is really killing my productivity.

Really all there is to it is focus and conditioning. Every time you go to ESPN think of what you could be doing to make money instead, and I'm sure your mind will shift gears.

I drift a bit a times, fuck it's the internet every passing thought can be entertained. The key is to harness your energy and remember what is important.

Sometimes, as you suggested, a beer or two or a joint will slow you down. Also I find exercise helps me to focus. Hit the gym first thing in the morning and the day just sails by and I am productive as can be.

Really. all it boils down to is, find what clears your mind and motivates you and use it to your advantage.

i think that you just need to practice focusing. to some extent everyone has this problem. you just have to learn to work through it. think of that paper son.

OP i have the same problem. Im not a coffee drinking so im thinking about taking that up because i hear it helps people wake up and get focused. I have jacked but hate takin it and im sure its not very good for you at all.

I want some adderall but cant get any right now. So I guess its time to pick up a coffee habit. Also smoking weed does seem to help me sometimes. It really helps slow my mind down from racing and thinking about so much shit and I can focus believe it or not. It also helps me with being creative with landing pages. Only problem with that is when you smoke the last thing you wanna do is spend your time working. But once you get over that first barrier its all down hill.

exercise and run on the beach for about half an hour a day, atleast that's what works for me.

How do you end up at another site while loading the browser?

  1. My mind says "I want to buy domain"
  2. Launch my browser
  3. while waiting for browser to launch, I start thinking about other stuff, sports, wickedfire and etc (I guess I hate waiting)
  4. Browser finishes loading and I type in espn instead of godaddy.
This happens a lot especially when I am "waiting" for something.

Faster computer could solve that problem.

Exactly same shit happens. If I'm waiting for something to load, I have some kind of subconscious reflex to check other shit cause I hate sitting at a blank screen, even if it's only for 10 seconds.

I take Dexedrine. It doesn't prevent the said circumstance from happening, but for some reason I remember things a lot better, so my sidetrack time is literally cut down to a 10th of what it usually is.

To each his own.

Find and watch program from Eben Pagan "Wakeup Productive".
damn good shi*, and he talks about it allot in that program. In short is about focus, clear chunks of time , let say 50min. Kill Email notification and Facebook Especially, because every distraction is chain reaction, triggers some other shit that you "must" check.

I think is called monkey mind syndrome...

Yeh blame it on something else.

What about just following up with what you've decided to do?

Lack of focus could really just be a symptom of slipping motivation... If you are not fanatically obsessing about your business 24/7 maybe you need to look again at what is driving you. What motivates you? Why do you do what you do? Why did you get into this business? Why do you want to be successful? Why would you hate not getting that campaign done? Think of the cost of lost productivity and force yourself to focus.

If you are burned out, taking coffee, meds or going for a walk would probably just mask and delay the problem... If ESPN seems to be more important than your campaign, something is really wrong... I find myself most productive when accomplishments multiply and build momentum. If momentum breaks down it is easy to get distracted. This happens to me from time to time, especially whenever projects do not work out as well as planned.

Enough of reflection, time to get back to work instead of joining Wickedfire ADD-Anonymous pity party. Do likewise gents!

It's all mental. What I did was rent an office. When I'm at the office I have a business mind. I act as if I were working for someone else (well I guess I'm working for my clients). This way I naturally avoid unproductive activities. Then I take an hour break to eat and do what I want, just as if I were at a normal job working for the "man".

So when I get home, that's when I do the facebook, news, porn & gay webmaster forum stuff. Just like what I'm doing right now before I drive over.

but methamphetamines works too.... so I hear...

This is only half true. Sometimes it is like I get one project going and suddenly I have 10 ideas flowing in about the same project and I ended up not focused because I spend so much time thinking and planning.

Not that I don't love what I do, it is that the stuff we do is so broad that makes you even harder to focus.

Fk, I don't even know where I am going with this. I need to focus.
