Not have health insurance? Don't expect a tax refund.

or the fact every state requires min. liability car insurance?

Are you sure that is a fact?

Even where it is required, people can choose not to drive and not be required to pay it.

Reality trumps incorrect logic.
Incorrect logic is not logic. That's like trying to claim a rotten walnut is equivalent to a whole walnut.

It's another red herring.

Failure of observation can lead to false logic being applied.
Exactly, thank you. Now you can stop claiming that observation trumps logic.

Alternatively if you were brain dead and you're logical thinking led you to believe that 2w + 2w = 3w (assuming there are no rotten walnuts), then the reality would help you and everyone else to see that in actual fact 2w + 2w = 4w.
Yes, if someone was braindead, they would continue to argue that 2+2 is not = 4 by trying to twist the argument such that it was no longer about 2+2 but rather 2+1.

You've unintentionally offered an excellent example of what struggling to reason is about. The difference between believers and thinkers.

The vast majority of Americans don't even pay tax so who gives a fuck what their opinion is.

IMO if you're on any type of government handout your voting privilege should be revoked except in cases of actual physical disability which keeps you form working or for people who have served in the military.

Non-physically disabled people who have not served in the military on any type of welfare(food stamps, welfare, section8, medicare, medicare, ETC) should automatically have their voting rights suspended until they are able to support themselves. If you aren't capable enough of supporting yourself then you're vote should be void. At the very least it should count as less. Why should a welfare case who can't even hold down a job have his or her vote count equally to someone that is a responsible citizen, works, supports their family, and pays taxes? Bullshit.

God I'm sick of this fucking country. What's sad is there really isn't any place else to go as an alternative. Anyplace in the EU is 10x worse and it really starts going downhill when you start looking at other parts of the world. Middle East? Africa? South America? Meh....though atleast S. America is beautiful. I guess if I'm going to get kidnapped and killed it should happen in a place with pretty beaches and hot women ;D

The poor, lazy, and stupid are slowly taking over.

You're a stupid idiot - full stop. The next time you walk across a street paid for by public funds, count yourself among the poor, lazy and stupid. I love it how people have all kinds of opinions about health insurance and they're not paying one dime of health insurance for employees. American small and medium sized businesses are left at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to wha we are expected to pay for any health insurance.

Have you ever gone without so your employees with kids can have some kind of health security. If not STFU..

 This again? The Government is within its rights to do roads for many uses (promotes commerce; but it doesn't mean the private sector can't do it better), but not *force* you to buy healthcare. Forcing people to buy a private commodity is not constitutional, and is not supported by the commerce clause. On top of the road argument, why is it that private toll roads are better maintained, are typically faster to travel by, and are just in general better than public roads? Think about that.

I prefer to drive on toll roads for that very reason. The freeways are full of broke-ass poor people in their crappy cars clogging the whole place up. It's not like they have a job to go to or anything, they're such a public nuisance.

Toll roads are a good way to keep the riffraff out of the neighborhood without them realizing it.

YES!

America was founded on the white man voting ... from my understanding of history, this had little to do with racism or sexism. Close to 100% of land owners (people who shouldered the financial burden of the country) were white men and the founding fathers wanted to people who paid the taxes to make the rules.

I believe they mostly left it up to the states; Jews and Catholics couldn't vote in at least some of those states. Widowed women who inherited land couldn't vote. Native Americans couldn't until the 1920s and in some places until the 1960s.

What??? That's INSANE! You can get a good plan, with a cap around 2.5-5 million or so (and aren't those caps going to disappear anyway), for $150 (give or take) per month at eHealthInsurance.com. Outpatient surgery is a $300 or so deductible, ER visits and urgent care are $50-$75. Primary Care and specialist visits are $20. Yearly out of pocket max around $5k.

Of course this will all vary depending on your age & health. But it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the $1,228 PER MONTH that you mention.

I live in Nyc. everything is expensive.

You have no idea what you are talking about - and I have enough sense to know not to present logic to fanatical ideologues.....

Would you drive a mack truck? Because one would need a vehicle that big to drive through the holes in your logic. "Broke-ass poor people" - is this how they talked at your dinner table growing up.....good pedigree ftw ;)

Yes we all know you were the captain of the lacrosse team at Lawrenceville and are insanely wealthy (laughing at your albeit ashamedly)...

Constitutional objections to Obamacare don't hold up

Not that it will ever get read.....Not that the folks at the best constitutional law school in the country know what they are talking about....and for the love of god please don't start posting links from the Mises Institute....it's gets boring after a while....

I'm going back to reading the comics now....

Pedigree doesn't matter here.

He knows what I'm talking about. He's the parvenu who superciliously claims he is so much better than "poor people" - typical new money lack of class. As if those with real pedigree don't feel a sense of obligation to people who - for whatever - reason aren't living as well as some others....

There's a major flaw in this op-ed piece (in which I'm sure I could find plenty other opinion pieces by law professors that indicate an opposing view)

"True, the plan imposes mandates on individuals. So do jury service laws, draft registration laws and automobile insurance laws. "

Jury service laws are constitutional and mandated by the constitution, and also serve as a check on unreasonable laws if the Jury chooses to protest. Automobile insurance laws? That's been reputed before. You aren't required by law to own a car, nor are you required to drive. Plenty of people walk, bike, take public transportation, etc.

This law says if you plan to *exist*, you must purchase health insurance. It's an unconstitutional mandate. I don't like the draft either, so why throw that up there? Your arguments don't hold water, and backing it with opinion pieces isn't exactly helping your cause. Opinion piece, not the "peer-reviewed research" (wait, let me put it in bold, italic, underlined big font so you can understand it) "peer-reviewed research"

You have none on this subject, so you're falling back on op-ed, which means absolutely nothing, regardless of who publishes it.

This entire discourse is "op-ed" - unless you have some constitutional law credentials about which no one knows?

So, ceteris paribus, if any non-ideologue had to choose between the opinion of a Yale Law Student's "op-ed" and "papajohn" an Interwebs Marketing Forum moderator's - what would be more logical?

I used to find you mildly annoying until I quickly realized how very harmless you are....

Love the yellow font - my favorite color ;)

Appeal to authority. Logic fail. Again.

You were just taken to task for debating in bad faith 10 days ago. Have you forgotten already?

It's so counter-productive to promote your squeeze page in your sig, while posting obvious untruths or trolling in STS.

But then, I did cover your penchant for cognitive dissonance...

Hook.

Sinker.

That post was made especially for you Riddar.

Your plan must be really good. I did a quick search for a random zip code in New York, NY, and for $430/month, it pays 90/10 on hospital, surgery, etc...no lifetime max cap, $2800 deductible, $3800 out of pocket max per year. Lots of similar plans in this range. (not sure of your age, this was for a 30-year old who doesn't use tobacco).

$430 is still a lot higher than a similar plan here, which would be a few hundred per month less...probably less than $200.
