ElectronicPunks - all I can say is that's insane. How do you live life when you have to follow such a rigid daily routine? Totally insane. Hopefully fitness IS your life! :)

You could try hot yoga. Nothing will make you want to die faster than moving quickly in a 45+ degree (celcius) room, but it works for losing weight!

I lost 60 lbs last year in between June and September...

I literally did it through limiting caloric intake & running.

I ate one meal a day (only dinner) and I ran every morning.

I drank over 10 glasses of water a day.

I went from 205lbs (at 5'11") to 161lbs.

The only difficult part was the occasional dizziness I'd get when preparing to stand up.

Ummm.... No

If he wants to retain his muscle and just shed fat or "get cut", OP should be doing lower weight and higher reps.
Ummm.... Yes

the high-rep-for-fat-loss is another bullshit myth

if he wants to retain muscle he should be lifting heavy for lower reps.

This.

I dropped 9lbs in 11 days using Lyle Macdonalds Rapid Fat Loss Diet. Didn't lose any strength either.

Pretty much tells you the healthiest way to go on an unhealthy crash diet.
lyle is the shit. damn near the only ebooks i've ever actually paid for :p

that and wendler's 5/3/1 regimine

One word: discipline.

I only spend a total of about 45 minutes in the gym each day Monday-Friday (30 mins weights and 20 mins cardio) so it's not like I'm in there all day or anything....

The hardest part is the fucking EATING. It's literally like a full-time job having 6/7 meals a day and having to prepare everything.

I actually used to a massively obese total fat fuck and am only just getting into hardcore fitness. I recently came back from training Muay Thai kickboxing in Thailand which really kickstarted things for me...

The more I do it, the more I love it. Being in shape is one of the best feelings ever and I'm glad I decided to get this area of my life truly handled.

I agree though, if I had a 9-5 and didn't work in IM it'd be a pretty unmanageable lifestyle...

A calorie deficit obviously is the way to go, but keep in mind, it's VERY important what kinds of calories you put in your body... lifting weights and going to mcdonalds twice a day for a 2000 calorie diet won't do you any good... keep your meals balanced and healthy, lean meats, vegetables... if you can stay away from anything that is processed, i.e. white breads, chips, crackers, cereal, unnatural sugars, etc...

if you just want to lose weight with no regard for muscle retention or building:

run as fast as you can, as far as you can, for as long as you can. preferably uphill.

repeat.

can't stress enough what people have been saying here about diet. garbage in, garbage out.

That's been my biggest hurdle so far...granted only a few weeks in on this attempt. But I've tried to do this and stick with it many, many times. Going to the gym and working out hard is easy. Fitting in eating and especially the prep involved (grocery store, cooking etc in the middle of deadlines, conference calls) on a good schedule is always the toughest.
