The Road

Good movie and similar to book of Eli. Except theres no book and no Eli.

I liked the book, so I think I'll wait a bit til I watch the film since they usually screw this up.

The movie is pretty unique to say the least. Can't say I was very cheerful after the movie was over. Something told me even in the end, you're not sure if it's a "happy" ending or not.

I keep seeing the "basement" scene mentioned, in the version I have there is no basement scene?!

Anyone care to elaborate because i cbf finding + downloading + watching again. (I've googled for it, and only come across reviews who skim through it)

Thank you, I was just looking at what movie to watch.

I don't really like doing affiliate marketing so this was a boner!

I really liked the book - got on a whole McCarthy kick after seeing "No Country for Old Men." I've also heard that Michael Haneke (The White Ribbon, Cache) wrote and directed a movie that's pretty similar to The Road called Time of the Wolf.

McCarthy's best is definitely "Blood Meridian." It's hard to describe. Basically a group of soldiers/mercenaries out in the American West (pre-Civil War I think) get paid to hunt and scalp Indians.

His books have this beautiful fatalism about them - there's always this unstoppable evil out there that seems to be stronger than the good.

Spoiler alert, if you haven't watched it don't read this.

Just watched, very bleak look at what post-nuclear society would/could shape up to be. People doing what people have to do to survive, making the tough choices, and ultimately trying to be the good guy and getting screwed for no real apparent reason.

The ending just kind of got to me, not that it was bad, just really unexpected that he would go against what his father taught him (trust no one). Although throughout we see the kid wanting to trust others, wanting to help, and desperately wanting other human contact.

I like how no mention on who nuked who, or how it all got started. It's like it happened so long ago it's really irrelevant.

The story of the mother was a bit confusing as to why she would just leave, into the darkness in the middle of the cold night. I get the fact she was contemplating killing herself before hand, but there just wasn't enough back story to really make you understand and empathize with the decision. It really leaves you to speculate that she either can't handle the thought of the canables catching them, or maybe that life is not what it use to be and she simply doesn't want it. Although I will say I think they where trying to drive home that they only had two bullets if they had to take their own life's, and being three of them that she gave her own. I have a problem with that as there are many other ways to off yourself need be. Meh, just really bugged me. Some back story on how they came down to only two bullets would have been great.

One thing I didn't pick up, and maybe it's just me, but why are all these people missing their thumbs? A bunch of people have stubs.

Going to put it on the list. Hubby makes fun off me because when we get a blockbuster movie everytime he pulls out the cover to read it it usually starts with something like "In this post apocalyptic tale..."

Use 'cellar scene' instead of 'basement scene'.

It was too slow for my tastes. I'm a contemplative, philosophical kind of guy but that movie was very predictable and boring in parts.
