Whenever I see him, he asks me to teach him how to make money online so he can retire earlier. When I tell him he doesn't have the experience to do it, he gets pretty offended. The extent of his computer knowledge is emailing, downloading spyware, and playing solitaire. I can't think of anything that he could do besides taking surveys or maybe making a blog, but that wouldn't produce the kind of money he's looking for...

Got any ideas?

I'd sit him down and have an earnest chat about him not trivialising what you do.

Obviously I don't know what your father does, but in my case my father is an engineer. I'd never dream of asking him to tell me what to do in engineering so I can make a bit of money on the side, and similarly he shouldn't expect to be able to jump in to my business.

why not suggest he do the 30 day challenge--it's starting soon and it's *mainly* free--that's how I got my start in the whole IM thing!!

Ask him that if he thinks he does have the experience why is he asking you?

If he still persists, direct him to post his questions on Wickedfire! That should give him a good doze of reality :music06:

I'd just use his bankroll and make him a silent business partner for a project. Shoot him receipts, links and reports every step of the way, he'll get the point that what you do is not just clicking buttons.

Worst case scenario he'll lose a few bucks. If you hit it right, he'll make some monies but, more importantly, you will too.

My point is, you can't treat immediate family like they're too dumb to do what you do. If he was a good dad, treat him just like he treated you when you had no experience in something. Don't hold his hand but find a way to include him somehow so he feels semi-important but can't do any damage. When he screws up, ground his ass.

Tell him to go buy a domain, hosting, and setup a wordpress blog on it so you know he's serious about it. He'll probably give up when he can't remove the 5 additional extensions and 3 years of prepaid hosting from godaddy's cart. If he does do it, well then he's got potential and may be teachable.

LOLed.

Hey, but he can certainly start a blog on one topic. It doesn't take much to learn about one Topic. And once someone starts blogging on a Topic, he learns it automatically.

Somebody who is serious about blogging about a topic he knows fairly can generate a decent retirement income. He doesn't have to make millions, but there are thousands of Blogs that makes 5-10 K a month..

All one needs is Focus.
If he can Churn out Moderately good quality content, at one or two posts a Day, and you help him chose keywords.. help in some SE01.. then why not...

He doesn't have to go into traffic brokering..

I have helped quite a few friends earn up 1K or more a month.

if one is not the shortcut kind and not start doing copy pasta and churning.. one could even make a living just writing about 3 movies a week.. if you get the drift..

Just take him seriously, get him started, and he'll either realise how hard it is and give up, or realise how hard it is but still make some money. Either way is fine. I mean its not exactly a problem having a slightly wealthier dad.

Just make sure he knows you're not teaching him everything.

Wouldn't let me edit the original so I added these:

.....once someone starts blogging on a Topic, he learns about it automatically. I mean If darren rowse can learn about photography.. cumon..

And many blogs are not SEo centric, because the SEO types wants to start 1000 sites and get lost.. And the bloggers are too busy blogging what they ate for breakfast... there still are a good number of Niche out there that you can easily dominate if you are serious about it and are willing to put all your focus on it. You won't be able to Scale it... but you can easily go from Page 100 to SERP top 3 on many topics if you are consistent, unique and work on simple link building like making friends with bloggers....

Hook him up with this mysterious person on the internet (you), that will pay him to write articles. Then you can not pay him, trash talk his work etc. He'll get the feel for the business that way.

Downloading Spyware --> lol.
Well he is your dad, he probably spent a lot of time teaching you shit that he knew would be a waste. And hey maybe it won't be a waste. If it was me I'd tell him flat out that its gonna take about three years of Hard Work on his part to kinda catch up to the kids who can basically make a computer do the Texas 2 step. Then hook him up with some forums, let him get conversant with the terminology. Then see where he's at in a couple of months and go from there.

sounds like every single one of my friends. move along

I second the blogging idea. Not sure what field he currently works in, but I'm sure he has enough knowledge to competently blog about it. If he's an expert, that's a plus and his possibilities for making the moniez is even greater. That's one idea.

You could hire him to do some of your crap work, link building, writing, stuff like that. Not sure what else he is qualified to jump right in to.
