I know there are a lot of educated people on this forum. So what's your guys' take on the whole 2012 end of the world thing?

I remember first hearing about 2012 when I was 10 or so (12 years ago) from my brother who used to listen to Art Bell a lot. Even at a such a young age I didn't buy it completely, but I found it pretty interesting and left it at that.

Then, what, 5-6 years later? It goes mainstream and starts blowing up. 2012 this, 2012 that. 2012 books, 2012 movies. Apparently even Jesus moved his return date up to December 21st, 2012 when he heard the news just 'cause he thought it'd be cool.

I figure when it comes to this thing you can have 1 of 3 views

1. It's bullshit
2. You buy it completely (my mom fits into this category)
3. You can't deny it completely because sure, it's possible. However, as each day passes and you see how more and more fucked the USA and the world as a whole is becoming, you think it's pretty strange that it's all coincidentally happening as we're approaching this "special" date.

To be honest, I have this weird feeling that it'd just be strange if we actually make it through the entirety 2012. Like the destruction of our species on that date (or around that time) seems so fitting for some reason.

I guess you could say I'm actually looking forward to it since I have pretty strong feelings of misanthropy, especially lately.

Personally, I always cower in fear on Dec 31st every year, because the calendar runs out of days.

I promise I'm not trying to start some retarded shitstorm. I just wondered if maybe one of you guys read something actually interesting/compelling that "made you a believer".

The whole Y2k thing was pretty much invented at the last minute, but this whole idea/theory/whatever has actually been around for quite a while. Which of course just because people have been saying it for a long time is a terrible reason to believe anything (religion), but I'm just sayin'.

If we really do get to 2013, I must say, I will lol heartily at how long they had everyone going.
 
Some ancient stories from the Mayan's say that at the end of the calendar say the gods will return or great change will happen. The idea of the world ending is just the popular one that the people ran with but it is one of many stories.

Personally I am siding with the History Channel and hope our alien masters (Mayan Gods) will be kind ones.
 
Just like those nuts who gave away all their shit so they can be taking away by Jesus last year, people are going to go ape shit December 21st.

We are going to see everything from folks heading to Sedona to wave flashlights and hand written signs in the air welcoming our alien brothers to Heaven's Gate type cults killing themselves. It's going to make for some good TV.

Personally I hope something like Shadowrun (circa 1989) happens and we all turn into cyber elves and rock trolls.

Hell, even with technology, I doubt mexico can do such things today. lol's at their country.

Am I preparing for it? Yes... Do I believe it will happen? No... Why do I prepare for it? I'm preparing for the stupidity of assholes who may believe in it and riot. I'll rain led on all these stupid fuckers from a cabin home (2 city 1 cabin homes) I have in the forest (near big bear lake, ca) given they make it that far.

probably not gonna happen.. but if it does, its going to be really intradasting..
