24 Hour Startup - is that it?

On a side note, imagine what we could do in 24 hrs with some of the people here. Between all the design, development and marketing talent around here...I bet the results would be nuts.

Not a terrible idea ... and we usually have a charity thread popping up around this time each year.

This isn't even anything new I saw a price comparison site the other day that does the same thing. I thought it was just as stupid then as now. Though I can see it being useful for fashion perhaps but that's about it.

BTW, I click a color and see items from another color. Classic. I'm considering doing a recorded session of me coding that entire site from scratch.. lol.

If you could make it HQ to where we can read what you type, that would be sweet.

lol 20k for that

more like $200 - MAX

You are fucking hired! Come up with 5 concepts, design, code, integrate the feeds and I will pay you the MAX rate of $200 each -- plus I'll throw in a bonus of $200 each if they prove commercially viable.

Deal?

Yeah none of their stuff works right but they probably did make a few sales from it considering the press they got. For 20k though they could have come up with something a lot better than that.

20k manhours for this good Lord.. or maybe they used the first 19k to come up with the idea. However they did sth right because were talking about it now

It does show the general level of retardedness in the corporate webdesign industry. These guys are pretty much par for the course.

Like you said, it's good PR for them, so that's a win.

You're kidding right a bunch of Affiliate "marketers" getting their knickers in a twist about some web designers and developers building something in 3 days?

I was part of the dev team and yes the colour matching needs a bit of work, do you know how difficult it is to do colour comparisons? We actually have the maths now to do LAB colour comparison rather than RGB which is much more accurate and the successful buyer may want to look at that.

We have a custom bit of code that takes the product image, highlights the main product from the background then gets the main blob of colour. From there it can give you an average colour or use a histogram. That is some kick ass code and something none of us web devs have ever done before, you try that in 24 hours.

Also try coming up with a Brand and design that is close to that in 24 hours.

Rather than snipping away you could put your affiliate marketing bollocks where you mouths are and come up with something better, in 24 hours with no sleep.

But you all know it was just a bit of a marketing jolly, us as a development team had a great laugh and it was the first time we had worked in the same office as the designers and the marketing guys so it was great for team building.

Someone has a nice site for $5k

Oh and we got in the Torygraph today......

Well, if they got 5k for it, it leaves 15k for a team building exercise and some PR. Not bad I suppose.

Still makes me laugh the way the press get so excited over something pretty basic. Goes to show how clueless most businesses are about what's really possible in development these days. It reminds me of my consulting days 10 years ago when I came across across a client who was sold a £500,000 site by a London "new media" company that was worth all of £8k. Needless to say, the investors are still waiting for their money back.

Hats off to them - they put the acai berry merchants to shame when it comes to throwing a good line in BS.

@johnhward, most of the coders on here are smart enough not to go publicising the stuff they come up with in much shorter timescales of 24 hours, because they value profitability more than press exposure. Different way of doing things.

Anyhow, WF already did get together and make something. You might wanna check out

Do you think we should try to get some coverage in the Daily Mail?

Just realised why that upset them so much - this thread is ranking #7 in for "24 hour startup". Whoops. Sorry guys, didn't mean to shit in your ice cream like that :P
