Hubby is FINALLY out of the Navy, and we're looking to relocate to Nebraska (low cost of living, great school, yadda yadda) around the first of September. Was just wondering if anyone either had rental / lease-to-own property in Nebraska, or could give any advice on family-friendly areas vs. areas to stay away from.

We're wanting to stay out of the city, but be within an hour of any of the three UofN campuses.

I've got a place to rent out, let me know if your interested...

Shoemoney and SEOMike live in Nebraska. I live in South Dakota. Nebraska is ass to be honest, check out Sioux Falls, SD. Living anywhere south of 57th street is going to put you in heaven.

Come to South Dakota (Black Hills). It is cheap and still beautiful.

At least where I live, where bb_wolfe resides is farm country.

If you know they have great schools one would assume you know where these schools are. I would guess there are good places to live near these schools. At least that's been my experience. If you find a realtor in a decent sized town they should be able to help you with the smaller surrounding towns as well. Unless the realtors are like the ones in Baltimore in which case they will provide no useful information at all.

Seriously, I wouldn't pick Nebraska as a place to live. I don't know about living in the black Hills as dschus mentioned, but it is beautiful there and closer to the mountains. South Dakota > Nebraska > Kansas > Oklahoma.

I believe BigWill lives in or around Lincoln. I remember him talking about buying investment properties at some point in the past.

Yup and yup

What are you looking for? Where at in Nebraska? I only deal with properties in Lincoln. But im really familiar with all the towns around the Lincoln/Omaha area.

Really, if you stay out of the city any small town will be extremely family friendly (minus Beatrice and some areas in GI)

Thanks for all the info so far.

BigWill, sent you a pm.

I'll check out SD... but the hubby wants to go to UofN. (And yes, I know the three campuses are located in Kearney, Lincoln, and Omaha)

Figured I'd check around for a word-of-mouth deal somewhere, before going through a property management company.

all shit towns.

j/k Lincoln was ok for the time I visited. SD sounds nice if far away from places like Bucks Roadhouse, wtf is right.

i thought i was in some kind of white trash twilight zone when i was driving through there. was talking to this dude at the bar at a strip club and we agreed the place sucked and there were no hot strippers, so he drove us to this place: http://www.buckssiouxfalls.com/buckssiouxfalls/. what the fuck?

the black hills are nice though. deadwood is a cool little town.

Family town is what she's looking for. Yes, you are 100% right that the trash of the town hang out at Scarletts (strip club) and Bucks.. Total trash places.

Hit Tre Lounge, Braccos, Johnny Carinos, or TC's Referee if you want a nice place to hang without toothless welfare receipients.

Agreed. I am pretty close to Sturgis and Deadwood.

If you want paradise I have couple of acres for sale. Kauai, Hawaii. I am contractor so I could even build your house. Paradise is not cheap but, as they say you get what you pay for. No smog, empty
beaches.php
beaches, water always 72 degrees, even have a college here.

Hm, if they are looking for a place to rent I think that might be a bit out of their price range....

I've lived in Blair and Omaha, NE. Both places sucked ass. I agree that you should check out Sioux Falls.

Good thing you like snow!

j/k i lived in Lincoln/GI 15 years growing - fond memories - south lincoln is hopping these days from what I understand . . .

Get a place next to Shoe!

I grew up in Seward, NE -- it's about 20 min from Lincoln. Very nice town if you don't mind being in population of about 6000. It's close enough to Lincoln that you can easily get away.
