Based on my understanding of Judiasm (very limited), since Jews are God's "chosen people" the only way to be a "real" Jew is by birth. You can convert to follow the Jewish faith/beliefs/customs, but that doesn't mean that every denomination of Jews have to "accept" you as a Jew.

Now that I understand. I'd assume that many hardcore Muslims wouldn't totally accept a random "John Smith" that converted to Islam either. To be fully accepted by anyone in any religious group, you'd better be born as one of them right from the start. That's the "tribal" instinct that comes with every religion.

Muslims will take anyone that believes Mohammad is the final prophet, and Allah is the only god, and Muslims have been actively trying to convert the masses throughout history. Christians will take anyone that belives jesus is son of god and savior, and they have actively been trying to convert the masses throughout history. And if people want to convert it is very very difficult, sometimes can take years. Most people who try to convert are persuaded by rabbi's not to convert even before they start, because they simply will not make the cut. It is like the special forces of religion. I need to brush up on it, but basically Jews ask converts "why the hell would you want to be a part of a nation, where every where we go people despise us?" & "even to the point of them killing us because of what we belive" - Mind you that book was written thousands of years ago . Also Jews are extremely disciplined. JUst the laws of Shabbat and Kosher will make most people say that is not for them. Remember, two different types of Jews exist; by blood and by faith. Since I think Jon was non religious, but had dark hair/eyes my assumption was that this is his bloodline. The jews are not God's chosen people (they were in the old testament), but the new testament calls the Israelites Gods chosen people which are indeed white. This does not mean that blacks, mexicans, etc. go to hell, given they believe in Christ as the Son of God; as anyone can accept Christ as the Lord and Savior.

As for converting to Judaism as your faith - why not take up satanism? Remember, if you were to call synagogues (the place of worship for jews) and ask them what they thought of Jesus Christ they would refer to him merely as a teacher, if that. They don't believe that he is the Son of God, but rather - that the messiah has yet to come.

Now it clearly says John 8: 19-20 states to the jews "You don't know me or my father. But if you knew me, then you would know my father too". Also; John 3:36 "He that believes in the Son will have everlasting life; and he that does not believe in the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him". It also states that Jesus must be believed in; in Romans 6:23, I John 5:11, I John 5:12, I can give you more if you want?
