I already cleared out my pantry to the boy scout that woke my ass up knocking on my door at 8:30am.

@wolfe, had to copy and paste that list to a few friends, very real and I can relate to a lot of it from my childhood days... Really great to see a thread like this here +rep.

I can't find any info on foodbank's here in Melbourne, but I am probably going to be putting a couple hundred down at the Salvo's kitchen when they start their drive at the end of the month.

Being poor is people surprised to discover you’re not actually stupid.
Being poor is people surprised to discover you’re not actually lazy.
Those were the two that got to me. I'm so sick of some of my newer friends not realising why some of my older friends do get upset when we want to go to a nice restaurant for dinner or something, and then just saying if it's a money issue they should stop being lazy and get a better job.

When I was in school/Scouts/college we would do food drives, recycling collections, and stuff like UNICEF. Now we tend to donate to the SPCA or other rescue shelters every year. Animals need loving care too, and I tend to like them more than people anyway ;)

For some reason I totally thought this post was going to be about Ryan Eagle lol. Kudos for this post Wolfe! Gave me some good ideas of what to do with my monies from A4D :)

Great thread +rep

Also a lot of local schools will have gift trees so you can donate a present to a kid who might not get one.

Anyone who spent their childhood dirt poor on welfare knows christmas time isn't always a happy time. Even a $10-$20 gift can really brighten a kids situation.

Kinda <3 you a little! lol

Its great to see a thread like this on WF, but I sometimes wonder whether it might be better to help one person to feed themself rather than spreading a few bucks around to feed many for a day. Its that ol' saying about handing out fish or a fishing rod.

For example some guy on BHW has supposedly been teaching a homeless guy AM at the local library.

Hmm... your thoughts?
