to me, theres no such thing as a problem. people want publicly subsidized parks, they can have publicly subsidized parks and all the bullshit drama that surrounds them. my solution to the problem is to cut all the taxes that exist and to let government do whatever the fuck it wants with the little that is left. finding the time to pass such bullshit laws as outlawing smoking is just a very telling sign of the ruling caste having so much power, they even quitted pretending a long time ago.

im not paying taxes and as long as im not paying taxes, i dont feel like having a vote in how "public funds" are spent. i dont give a shit. but if i had to, i would vote on less taxes, because that is the root of the problem. without widespread taxation, there can be no such bullshit as passing laws that reduce the freedom of the individual to such a laughable level.


a word on your sarcasm. making sassy comments about other totally unrelated legislative freedom infringements just gives away how truly bitter you are regarding the fact that government assumes that much power. wallowing in rhetoric devices wont relief you of any of your misery. do the right thing. jump ship before its too late.


downloading movies, on the other hand, is a very real, unjustifiable, infringement on some other parties copyright law. i dont agree with any of the measures the entertainment industry employs on their crusade against filesharers and i hope that the internet stays as neutral, anonymous and all the other desirable properties that it possesses, but fundamentally, they are right. youre stealing their work. and the notion that stealing from them doesnt hurt them is bullshit. on the one hand, theyre all publicly traded. if you take out of their pockets, you take out of all the retired grandpas pockets whose retirement fund invests in them. on the other hand, saying stealing from them doesnt hurt because theyre big is just like saying stealing 50 billion tax revenue from the american people doesnt hurt htem because you leave another 200 billion on the table for them to live on (i have no idea whether those numbers are even remotely accurate). i download just as much as you do, but denying that its doing wrong on some level is just silly.

I think your first sentence ending your argument here. If you don't believe in problems, okay. sounds great.

I never said downloading movies were not illegal. I was sarcastically commenting on your wanting to make fines impact people's food for the month. That's what the fines are for downloading movies, etc., $10,000+, that's pretty ridiculous when the movies probably costs less than $40. But again, you don't think there is such a thing as a problem, so I find it hard to make an argument, you don't pay taxes, you don't vote, you don't believe in problems. Alright dude, you win. Good luck bro.

there are no such things as fines for downloading movies. these are civil cases that settle out of court for these sums because people cant afford the lawyers to defend themselves.

What about if you're smoking somewhere where they haven't bothered putting anywhere that you actually can dispose of your butts? I always dispose in those if possible, but a lot of the time, there isn't actually anywhere you can. There's bins, sure, but I'm not sure throwing burning objects in bins is a good idea, especially if it's a garbagebag in there. (It's gonna be a hell of a lot harder for them to clear up the mess from a split garbagebag because someone's made a hole in it, than to sweep up a few butts from the ground.)

it's all relative. As a kid i hated smoking; my dad smoked like a chimney, but low and behold guess who's smoking cigs now. I actually quit for an extended period of time this year, but fell off the wagon. I've got to admit that when i finally got over the 5 day hump i really started to notice the smell in public. Just walking by the outside of a bar i felt the smell was fairly gross and can totally see how/why someone can be annoyed.

I'm 100% in favor of smoking bans in bars/restaurants. I don't even enjoy it. Few if any have the ventilation system to accommodate and prevent you from being locked in a gas chamber. However a bar owner should have the right to choose and cater to the customers wants not the governments. Let bar owners choose and the will of the people will influence their decision to suit the majority.

What bothers me most is how hardcore this country is against smoking to the point that some people look at smokers with disgust as if they are the #1 harm to the greater good of society.

Meanwhile I see hundreds of people every day driving giant SUV's, disobeying simple traffic laws, and texting at highway speeds. Which by the way could directly be responsible for the death of another person TODAY; not 20 years from now.

People who lobby for these bans are more concerned with their own comfort than the well being of others.

outside is outside though...let em smoke
 
Wait- this is just for tobacco, right? Cause one time when I was in Atlanta, I went to a place called Little 5 Points and they were walking around smoking weed on the street.

I think you should be forced to buy the most energy efficient appliances for your house as soon as they come out (even if they're released a couple days after each other), only drive the best hybrid cars, and only use solar power. Quit being a dick head that's destroying the planet.
 
Litter might be a great thing. It will create jobs that we need (Union of course).

More litter = More Jobs

Think of all the jobs that could be created if we all did our part?

Sounds like we are being selfish, and not littering...

Plenty of reasons. To give you just a couple:


  • You're pushing embers into the bin by smushing it
  • If you do it in a rush, it may not have all gone out properly
  • There may be a garbagebag on the side
And plenty more.
