Best Luxury Hotels in Carribbean?

I'm looking to book a short trip to the Caribbean this spring (never been) and having a hell of a time finding an awesome luxury hotel.

There are certainly a lot of good hotels / resorts in the Carribbean, but a pretty big chunk seem to trend towards families / wedding parties / etc.

In particular it'd be great to find like a private beachside villa with pool too...

Biggest concern is finding a great resort with awesome suites over the island itself, since airfare tends to be same to most those places.

Checked out some places on St Barth, but heard service is poor.

Any suggestions? Cost isn't an issue.

Thanks

Is there a reason you want to rent a hotel? If there's no real major reason id looking into renting a private home. You can get room service and chefs ect, much more personal than a hotel.

I hadn't thought about that tbh. But it'll be a short trip (3-Days) so I figured a hotel would be easier.

SLH.com has some great properties, many of which you won't find on mainstream travel sites.

Find a Virtuoso hotel, and book through a travel agent / Amex FHR. Mad benefits like Guaranteed upgrades, Resort credits, Free daily breakfast, F&B credits - all sorts. The hotel pay their fee, you usually get BA rate or a cheaper Virtuoso rate.

If you need a hook up with a solid TA, shoot me a PM. He gets discounted rates with VS out of LHR too.

Check out either Cap Juluca or The Viceroy in Aguilla. Spent our honeymoon there in October. You fly into St Maarten and the hotel arranges a private charter (air or sea) to escort you to the resort. Both are world-class hotels with awesome beaches, food and accommodations.

some pics of cap juluca (stayed in this room)...all rooms are directly on the beach, you just walk out your back door and right onto the beach.

This. Unless you're a fanboi of yellow wrist straps, bus trips to must-see tourist cafes, and getting told that the rest of the island is very dangerous* and you should stay in the resort if you value your life (and spend your money there), there's not a single reason to go to a resort.

*it's not.

Think St. Maarteen, that's a gorgeous place to visit. You may also like St. Lucia or Aruba.

That is if you want an Island. If you don't care then you could look into Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico.

Ive travelled all over the carribbean and usually stay at the RIU Palace's, all inclusive, great amenities and extras and the crowd is usually nice. Obviously if you want something private then just look into getting a villa.

I did the double trip of St Barts and Anguilla over 10 days this spring. We stayed at Cap Jaluca and ate at the Viceroy when we were in Anguilla. In the past I've done St Thomas, St John and the Cayman islands.

I would still have to recommend St Barts as my #1. The beaches aren't quite as nice as Anguilla but the resorts are nicer, service is nicer and the island actually has a vibe that Anguilla was lacking. It's basically the south of France in the Caribbean.

We stayed at Eden Rock in St Barts and liked it (though the A/C may have been a bit underpowered for my tastes). We ate at most of the other hotels and they all seemed very nice, it's hard to go wrong.

My only real complaint with St Barts is getting around. You'll need to rent a car, there's like 3 taxis on the whole island and no car service that I saw. Roads are narrow, windy, dark as hell at night and everyone drives super aggressively. I used to think that Mexico was the scariest place I've ever driven, but I think St Barts may be worse.
