Check out Lake Tahoe. Which is in NV. Depending on what you're looking for it's some of the most majestic scenery in the US. It's also right on the border of California and a 3 hour drive from SF. Some of the best skiing/boarding in the US if you're into that as well.

You know how I know you're not gay?

You live in Portland and complain about the singles scene.

Seconded ^ Although you can occasionally find cute quasi-yuppie betties in REI in the Pearl looking to outfit themselves in the hottest new outdoor gear.

Not to be the thread buzz-kill but there are some cons:

Do it, brother - Seattle is the SPOT.

I absolutely love Seattle as well. Worked on a project at Boeing in Bellevue and the place is really nice with stuff to do. The only complaint I have is the constant rain (keeps the place so nice and green) which gets to you and becomes so damn depressing.

Another kickass place for reasons mentioned above. Spent a lot of time there (I used to live an hour away) but you will surely be stuck when the big holiday weekends come around (July 4th, Memorial Day, etc) when South Shore gets hammered by partiers and the two-lane highways in and out of there turn into parking lots.

Alaska. Has reverse income tax, as they pay each resident a dividend to live there. Check out Homer, AK.

Umm, Delaware does have state income tax unfortunately. I just wrote them a check. This thread is great, I would like to live somewhere new eventually.
