If Muslims burned the Bible, what do you think would happen? Christians would start a war over it. Think Muslims won't do the same? Easy to judge.
The dude shouldn't be burning someone else's beliefs, and vice versa.
People don't want a mosque on Ground Zero, OK...that's understandable. I wouldn't want ANY religious building there. Give it a monument and call it a day. But burning someone's beliefs will only get more innocent people killed.

I never understood the point in being a militant atheist - isn't it nonsensical to be forceful about a lack of belief? That's like forcing nihilism on someone - you're acting exactly like the proselytizing religious people that you claim to hate. You're insulting people for their beliefs, making arbitrary and dumb claims, and making less sense than a typical street preacher.
Religion doesn't make good people do bad things. Religion is an excuse for bad people to do bad things.

Ok, a couple of things here, if we both walked in to a room and I said I could see faeries, would you not be forceful in your lack of belief in them to me? It's all well and good to say 'just ignore the religious' but if you do that then they fuck your life up whilst you stand by doing nothing.
Second point I was trolling Rusky after he told me to 'Go fuck yourself to some imaginary missing link images.' for no real reason. I'm not usually offensive for no real reason.

A good analogy, but it requires some elaboration:
Once it became completely apparent that they were personal hallucinations or delusions, most people would not get angry or ridicule you. They'd try to treat you well, and urge you to see a doctor. If your belief was benign and not hurting anyone but yourself, they would hardly even mention it again.
However, say you formed a large, powerful group of faerie believers by convincing a whole generation of children that faeries existed. Say that you claimed you were some kind of link to the faerie dimension; that you were special and could relay what they demanded even though no-one else could see them. Say this group infiltrated government and started trying change laws and policies, not through evidenced debate but by subverting the normal democratic processes. Say you used this power to manipulate the population into accepting and justifying conflicts and wars and to execute your prejudices against entire sections of your community...
If this was the case, as it is now with religion, then you're right that the 'faerie rejectionists' (ie. atheists) would label themselves 'secularists' and try their utmost to rid the system from the detrimental scourge of 'faerieism'. Faerieism would incur the same hate and ridicule as religion does.
So, there's a huge difference between personal belief and organised religion. Personal belief is more than fine; it's a right, even if those beliefs are completely ignorant. However, the way organised religion currently operates in this world is not acceptable in any modern society.
Anyway, as with the last religious thread that I butted into, I can't afford to get drawn into this further on WF. I've said what I needed to, so that's it from me.

I was for Draw Mohammed Day - it was about defending freedom and about not being intimidated my Islamist bullies who threaten to attack artists, journalists, actors (there was a play which was supposed to have Muhammed in it that was calcelled) etc.
Something like that may actually get Muslims to debate their own belief system, at least versus Western ideas, which in the long run is positive, as there is no tradition of self-criticism in Islam, one one of the reasons it remains so backward. Critics are always attacked, ideas cannot be discussed, set in stone - this has to change.
But this Burn the Koran crap is simply to demonise and antagonise Muslims in general. And not even Islamists, but just every day Muslims really. Its offence for offence's sake. Stoking the flames, no other reason.

Wars are started in pursuit of strategic imperatives, not over hurt feelings. The public just gets dumb excuses like 'hurt feelings' to get them to follow along, because explaining strategic imperatives to them is impossible.
