My roommate just picked one up and its so awesome and cheap and great and is the perfect solution to a htpc (home theater pc)

$99 from newegg - Newegg.com - Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player WDAVN00BN - External Hard Drives

It has two usb ports and you just plugin the external hdds to it and it reads the folders and you can play all the videos and music from it on your tv. It's very well organized and operates just like a HTPC.

2tb WD external for only $180 on newegg - Newegg.com - Western Digital My Book Essential 2TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive WDH1U20000N - External Hard Drives

We loaded up all our movies and tv shows on it and our music. Pretty awesome.

I actually bought one of those and sent it back... This is still the best "media center" I've used (under $40):

I use my 360 from a PC share on the network, but I have to use a converter on .mkv files to fix the audio so the 360 will play them.

i had one of these for about a year....wonderful little thing...i have trouble with the digital audio out, but i think that's my tv...i now switched over to a little quad core pc that costed me 300$ and has a 1tb hard drive in it and its connected to the internet...a little bit nicer once you get all the codecs and everything working(cause of internet and able to use a mouse and keyboard instead of remote)...but i think the wd hd tv player plays a little nicer still.

slight mod.
I can hook up my archos into it which acts like an external hdd. But it has wireless and can grab movies from the network and internet. Pretty dope.

The shitty thing about the xbox is they'll only play wmv files cus microsoft is a bunch of fags. So you have to use tversity to convert the files in real time across the network and tversity is a huge resource hog on the computer, it misses on a lot of codecs like mkv and since it goes across the network it plays choppy if someone else is using the network. Which is usually the case in my house. I still love the actual htpc setup I had one for a long time but meedio sold to yahoo and quit updating then all the awesome mods for it periodically quit working with the higher end video cards. Meedio especially kicked ass cus it had a torrent downloader and comic book reader built in. Plus it could record tv tivo style almost as good as the archos. This is the best solution i've seen especially since its really cheap so I can put it on every tv and it works with jump drives and the archos.

I know many don't trust eBay with things like this but I just got a sweet seagate 250gb external hd for $60. New, sealed, and no problem with it so far.
